I know this is a little early to be asking but my sister has asked me to make my nephew's birthday cake this June. She is having it in a beach theme and I wanted to know how to get a sandy look on the cake? Please help a newbie out? Thanks!![/b]

Crushed up graham crackers or nilla wafers have always worked well for me. I used the chocolate ones when I'm doing dirt for a garden cake. Just be sure and crush them up really fine so there aren't too many chunks.

Try crushed up Nilla Wafers. I've included a pic of a cake I did with them....

Graham crakers or the Nilla wafers work great for same. Heres an idea for you. Use Fruite roll ups as blankets on the beach. Use Pretzel sticks and rolled out Jelly Mint leaves to make Palm trees. A friend of mine did this and it was a hit at her sons birthday party. You can even try the jelly sharks as an add on for in the water..

I use vanilla cream filled cookies. They taste great on the buttercream frosting. I just put them in my mini chopper.

Good luck on the cake.

I've used a variety of things and all work well. My favorite is cinnamon sugar. It really looks like real sand. I used it on my beach theme cake. Check out the photos. Just go with the flavor and the look you like. You have plenty of time to play with it...icon_eek.gif
