I'm new to all this. can someone please explain to me the differance between gumpaste & candy clay & fondant.
What's a good place to read up on all this?
Feeling a little stupied!
Sorry I can't tell you the difference, but did want to suggest you could try using the search feature on this site. I've found so much information doing searches, as well as by posting questions here. I'm sure you'll get some responses from people who know, but until then try searching and see what you can come up with. This site has been an excellent resource for me as I'm learning to do cakes and cookies. Jodie
They can all be used to make decorations but fondant is also used to cover a whole cake. I know some people do with chocolate clay as well. Gum paste is used mostly for flowers or other decorations and it dries hard, I think it is like sculpting with clay. Chocolate or candy clay make nice decorations, mine don't get as hard as the gumpaste and they taste great- I love the flavor of chocolate clay(tootsie roll flavor, to me).
I asked a similiar question not too long ago. Here's the link to that. It answered some of my questions.

Here's a link for a recipe for candy clay http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-1985-0-Candy-Clay-for-Modeling--3D-Figures.html Candy clay and fondant are used for modeling and covering a cake and is completely edible. Gumpaste dries very hard and is used mainly for flowers and accents. In my opinon not something I'd care to eat. Gumpaste decorations will hold up indefinately if kept in a safe place but will break if dropped or knocked over. I mix fondant & gumpate together to make bows and shoes as it dries faster and probably won't be eaten. HTH
