I have looked in B&N and can't find any cake decorating magazines. There must be some out there. Can anyone suggest some names for me, please? Thanks!

Sure! American Cake Decorating is awesome and Mailbox News is for beginners to the more accomplished showing off their work. Also on Globalsugarart.com there is another cake mag from England or someplace across the pond which is new and exciting too. Can't remember the name of it though.icon_rolleyes.gif

I subscribe to Cakes & Sugarcraft - but it's very expensive... like $90 for 6 issues.

There was a Chocolate mag and another one that I found at a larger bookstore about 30 minutes away from me. I flipped through and nothing really looked useful in either one. There were alot of ads in one of them. Wish I could find a decent publication, one that I could use rather.

Pattigunter, the Mailbox News is that the one that is all fondant? I was thinking of getting it, but if it is all fondant I don't want it. Noone around here likes the texture of fondant, including me so If I use it at all, it's just for accents.

Mailbox News has a combination of all mediums really... It is mainly pictures and brief explanations of how the cake artist created it. Has work from all levels of expertise as well.

I subscribe to "Wedding Cakes" mag. it is from Europe and is filled with hundreds and hundreds of pictures of wedding cakes. it is put out by squires kitchen if you do a Google search, you should be able to find it. I use it all the time for inspiration.

I've been wondering this too. I just looked on Barnes & Nobles website and they have a few.

NikkiDoc - No its American Cake Decorating thats mostly fondant. I paid for the subscription but its not useful at all. Its a lot of advertisements and really exotic cakes made of fondant. I just got the 2nd magazine and was hoping it would be better but it was more of the same.

I really like the Wilton yearbooks but they've being going the fondant route the last few years too.

If you can get back-issues of Mailbox News, that would be a place to start. The back-issues of the Wilton Yearbooks are also nice to have around. I agree about the fondant. I love the way it looks, but I have no interest in using it.

namaman, patti, geminirj...thanks for the info on mailbox news! That sounds like the one for me. Gonna go check it out now. See if I can find some back issues per your suggestion! icon_smile.gif

Yeah, Gemini...in my area people just don't care for the texture. It tastes pretty good on it's own, but it's too sweet to eat alot of it. I wonder if the Kool Aid that people use to color it with would cut the sweetness a little...? I really want to try it on some cookies...I hear it's pretty good on a cookie. I haven't gotten around to experimenting with cookie decorating yet...I'm too busy playing with cake!

NikkiDoc, I've thought about the MMF for cookies too, but I'm just too lazy right now to try something new! Maybe once spring is over I'll have more time. I've just gone nuts with cookies, and really enjoy doing them.
Also, I have a whole year of MBN that I ordered by mistake. PM me if you're interested in having them. I'd only ask that you pay for shipping, but otherwise, they're free if you want them. (I'll look to see when I get home what year they are).

I was just told a couple of days ago to try adding a little lemon juice to my fondant to cut the sweetness a bit. Hope that helps!

I love "Wedding Cakes" from England. It is my favorite cake decorating magazine.

As for American Cake Decorating focusing too much on fondant, I think it depends on the issue. I have quite a few of them that have alot of buttercream cakes in there, so it just depends. It's going to be hard to completely avoid fondant. It's very popular, so they are going to give it more coverage.
