Many of my decorating tips have now developed some rust on the inside. I hate to have to replace a lot of them however can not seem to get the rust off. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Make sure you dry the new ones when you get them. After I wash my tips I place them on a double layer of paper towel to dry.

My brother used to use Coke to remove rust from screws and washers when we were kids. Just soak them over night in a glass of it. Worth a try! let us know what ends up working for you!

I just did a rust search and Dodibug had this suggestion:"I have also discovered a product called Bar Keepers Friend. It's a cleanser for pots and pans. It is awesome. I had some of my pans that had surface rust and other stains (thanks to Katrina) and they came clean and look great. And it's cheap! Found mine at Wal-mart."

What does that tell you about Coke if it will eat the rust off a screw!!! LOL

Hey, folks use Tang to clean their toilets! And astronauts drink it too!

Are you sure it is rust and not just discolored? Wilton tips are nickle plated and are not suppose to rust. If they are Wilton's, I would contact them about it.

I'm bad about letting my tips pile up before washing them, and have learned that if I leave them sitting in water, they will discolor, and sometimes will have a rust color, but nothing rubs off.

BarKeeper's Friend is the BEST. I loaned it to a friend that got rust out of a silk blouse without doing any damage. I also had a comforter that had been stored near batteries that leaked. I made a paste, rubbed it in and it was all gone!!! I use it on many things. I an sure it will clean up your tips.

Since they are not all that expensive, I'd just start replacing a few at a time. I'd hate for rust to end up in some of my icing by accident.

True but I always say you can't have enough tips or couplers!!!
I have a complete set for royal icing only. You could clean thses up and save them for royal. Are they rusted a lot?

Hey Thanks everyone for some great responses! I am going to try the Coke trick when I have a chance to get some soda--will let you all know. I am really not sure now if it is rust as it does not rub off--if they do discolor than I am not as worried as if they were rusting. I am now inclined to think it is discoloring as I have had the tips for a while and they just started to have this discoloring.
Thanks again all!
