I have my husband almost convinced to let me get licensed to sell cakes from my home. I live in PA and the guidelines are pretty easy. The only problem I have is the dog and what we will do with him. I don't know if I am really going to be able to convince my husband to get rid of the dog. But, I have read a few posts that said the dogs can be there if they are not in the kitchen. Is this true? The only other thing I have to do is put my cake stuff somewhere away from the rest of my house stuff. Can it be on a seperate shelf in the pantry or does it have to be in a completely seperate closet? If all goes well, anyone have any suggestions to make it work smoothly? I'm so excited, but terribly nervous about the idea of starting my own business. But, I am a stay at home mom and would really like some extra cash.

To be sure about the pet, I would just contact the inspector. they are not out to prevent business, they just want to be sure everyone is following the rules. they would be the most help to you. It may be possible to keep the pet, but you won't know until you talk to them.

Hi there...
Just wanted to let you know that some states do allow pets. I live in Maine and you can have a dog but it must be kept out of the kitchen. I am only in the beginning phase on becoming legal-waiting for my meeting with my town planning board(April 17th) but have been preparing for my home inspection as well.
I wanted to wish you good luck as well!

hi!
Where in Pa are you??
I'm in western PA, and just starting this process myself!! I had to call my town zoning board to get permission first.. they will have to give something in writing to the inspector saying that they are allowing me to have a business in the home.
I am pretty sure in PA pets aren't allowed at all in the home... do you have the links to the dept of agri??? it's on there. so not sure...

good luck with everything and keep us posted on how it goes!!
I have been dragging my feet and need to get my paperwork in if I ever decide on a business name. LOL

Good luck with your new business.

I live in PA also and pets are not allowed in the home at all. I found out myself when I applied, and if you have well water is has to be tested for bacteria.

Hope the info helps.

I've had the same questions as you! Ive toyed with the idea for a year now, and am getting a bit farther with it this time. I've called for the info again and am having the water tested this week. I didn't think about the pet issue. I'm in NY. I have a dog, but she's mostly an outside dog, only comes in at night. I didn't hear that the cake stuff has to be in a seperate area.... I wonder if rules are different for us or I wasn't told that.

I'm excited but nervous as well, especially after reading disaster posts! I'm just gonna start small, very small and as my confidence grows, do more.
