I made a cake and frosted it with canned frosting, to save time. It was just for class practice. I then made the handkerchief pieces from MMF colored with Wilton's paste color and put them directly on the frosted cake. The next morning, the fondant had changed color and texture. Instead of the traditional dry, powdery look of fondant, it was shiny and gooey. I scraped the fondant off and it was like scraping gum from your shoe <W> Turned really sticky. Where it was still in contact with the frosting it was still the original lavendar color. Everywhere it was exposed, it was blue. This is some sort of chemical reaction, but I am not sure exactly which caused it: the canned frosting, the MMF combined with paste color, or just bad luck. Anyone else run across this problem?

Lavender is notorius for fading to blue or grey. If it is exposed to light, especially.

Canned icing remains wet, and the fondant will soak up the moisture.

never had luck with canned icing, even the wilton kind. The MMF, you made a blanket? Maybe it would have been better to wait for a crust on the icing. just a thought
