for my husband's birthday next month. He likes heavy metal and Bach equally and I would like to make something that has a bit of both.

Hi,

Well, this is kinda tough because your combining two opposites in music.
If you go under my photos, you will see a cake that I did with a grand piano on it and music notes. The piano would cover the Bach theme, music notes would cover both themes, but if you wanted to add a little heavy metal, you could put his favorite rock group's logo on top of the piano, or put it in a corners of the cake.

Or put a grand piano in the middle of the cake, and four electric guitars, one in each corner. (a lot of work though).

Good Luck, let us know what you came up with!

If it was me, I would take the easy road. You could cut music notes out of black fondant, or chocolate clay(any color) and place them on your cake. That way you can use whatever size and shape you like.

If you know anything about sheet music, you could run one length of notes for a Bach composition and one length of a favorit rock intro.

Other wise they could be just random in various colors.

good luck!

Duff has some cool music cakes on his site. He even has a Kiss ( heavey metal) cake.

Hey! I've made that first cake a couple times, without the piano on top. It's reall quite easy, but impressive! I used kit kat bars for the piano keys around the top layer cake. I had to trim them a little to get the right length.

I am also making a cake around the music theme this weekend. This is perfect timing.
On the first cake. What are those things going around the bottom cake that is sticking up? imakecakes - What do you use for that?

I hope I did that right. I thought about this one when you said music. It's by Sweet Dreams by Tracy. She put the "happy birthday" song music around the cake. I know you don't want the fru-fru on a manly cake, but I thought that the music was a cool idea.

Well, I just noticed on the page, it clearly states that the originator was Margie Moore. Thank you for sharing, Margie! I love this cake, you definately deserved that award you won for it!

I used chocolate molds and made the one in the picture attached. It was a very simple design.

You're welcome, ricecakes. Did I get you the info in time for your cake this weekend? Did you try making the music staff's along the border? How did they come out?
