My first one is now in the freezer. I followed the directions on this site. My 2 questions are: The icing shouldn't be too thick or too thin, should it? and Should the back be covered with wax paper while it is freezing?

I make mine about 1/4 inch thick and I don't cover the back with anything. HTH

I don't cover the back with anything either. I do put wax paper to gently press the design down (I say gently, because if you push to hard, you'll smear your lines). And 1/4 inch sounds about right.

Thank you for your help. I smoothed with wax paper gently and I didn't put anything on the back. It turned out pretty well for my first. I did balloons that were different colors overlapping each other, with reflection spots. That way, I could practice on the whole layering thing. As with everything, I still need to do more to get the hang of it.

I usually put a piece of the wax paper on the back of it when I put it in. After I put it on I smooth the back. I also like to flip mine over after it has been in the freeze for a while and rub my hand over the front to smooth out any lines.

Here is my first FBCT. I think it turned out ok, but would like some constructive critism. Don't look at my border, though. I was in a hurry.

Thank you!! I'll have to try smoothing the front on my next one!! My 5 year old DD though it was really neat!!

I used TexasSugar's tip asbout smoothing the front tonight! Waited until it had frozen about 1/2 hr. covered the back with another sheet of waxed paper, flipped over, and VERY GENTLY rolled out the front with a rolling pin! Smoothest I've ever seen one of mine!
