I am so angry right now I could break something. Only fellow CCers can understand how upsetting this is. I just finished my first paid wedding cake. I put so much work into this one, trying to make it perfect. I took pictures with my digital camera and left to deliver the cake. When I got back home and tried to load the pics onto the computer, I got an error message saying that "some data may be damaged or lost" on my memory card!! All of my pics of my first wedding cake are gone!!!!
So many people asked me to show them a pic when I'm done and now I have nothing!!! The best part of making cakes is hearing all the positive feedback when others see your work. AAARrrrrrggggg!!!!!

I know exactly what you mean...last weekend I did a wedding cake that , to me, turned out to be one of the best one's I have done. I took about 6 pictures then when I got home and started to upload them to the computer, I ended up deleting them....I was sooooo angry...stupid...stupid...me....anyhow the bride brought back my stand and when she came in I told her what I had done and asked if I could pay her for one of her pictures of the cake. She was thrilled that I wanted to put her cake in my portfolio (imagine that) any how she is going to get me a picture...so maybe you could ask the bride for one of her pictures of the cake. Good luck

I say contact the bride. You KNOW they've got a picture of it.

Definitely contact the bride to get a pic or ask her who her photographer was and contact him direct to buy some copies. Then you'll not only have your cake pic, but a really good professional photo! thumbs_up.gif

Thanks for the pep talk guys! I actually just got a phone call from the bride...she said it was the best tasting cake she'd ever had!! Wow! I am thrilled!! She also said she gave my number to about 10 guests at the reception who were very happy with the cake! Waaa Hoooo!!! She also said that she'd email a pic of the cake to me later in the week...now I just hope she really does. Phew!! I feel so much better now!

10 referrals!! I'd be peeing my pants over that one! What a great compliment to your work!!!!!!

If you have the bride's email address, I'd send her a thank you note now, ".....thanking you in advance for the wonderful compliments and the copy of the cake picture. Can't wait to receive it and add it to my collection!" type of thing. This gives her a reminder about it in her in-box.

Wow, the referrals should make you feel GREAT! I am one that forgets or doesn't even take a camera. I am such a nut... a many catering events are unphoto'd. I have to work on that. But, I am sure there was a photographer there and you have a professional pic just waiting for you...

You can find out what photographer the bride used..most time they have a website and post the pictures of the wedding on the site. You can usually order directly from the photographer and if you tell them that you are the cake decorator, they may give you a special deal. I usually get my pictures from the photographers for free and just let them know that I will be happy to recommend them in the future. They usually have some sort of credit attached to the photo so anyone looking at it will know which photographer was used. Hope this helps.....

I sent the "thanks in advance for sending me a picture" email on Monday morning. I am so anxious to get a copy of the picture, I'm checking my email every 1/2 hour. It's driving me crazy!! I hope she sends it sometime soon. Man, am I ever impatient!!

Don't be upset if she forgets to send it, just give her a little time & remind her again. I know so often people mean well, but they forget.

So after some gentle prodding, she sent the picture! WaaHooo! I feel such relief. Now I have a pic for my "portfolio" and don't feel so mad about the camera. Here it is, what do you think? Any advice or criticisms?

Might I suggest getting one of those disposable ones and have it in your hobby kit? I works for me. Then when I develop them I have Walmart put them on disk!!

That is sooo cute! I love the topper! I like it because it's classy but still has a sense of humor. Very tasteful. Bonus points for it actually tasting good, too! Congratulations!
