So can you make apple blossoms, forget-me-nots, daisies, and the other flowers from Wilton II w/ buttercream? In the class I remember doing them with royal icing but I wasn't sure if you could do them in buttercream.... I don't feel like making a bunch of royal icing right now.....

I have used Buttercream as well. I actually only use Royal icing for long term products. I have used buttercream for every flower I have done in royal icing. No problems!

I've done the usual CII flowers in BC directly on a cake, which is a little tricky but can be done. You can always pipe them on a piece of waxed paper on a flower nail, and allow them to dry (like the drop flowers from CI), but I never thought crusty buttercream was too appealing. At least royal icing flowers are sugary and have some crunch (for those that eat them!). icon_biggrin.gif Not that I'm saying I ever snacked on RI flowers or anything like that! icon_lol.gificon_biggrin.gif

Sure I just did it this am. I did daisies, pansy, rose, and mums. I did them on wax paper squares just like in Wilton 2. Then I stuck them in the freezer for a hour.

I was just getting ready to upload the pics I took. Give me a min. -if your interested.

I too freeze the buttercream flowers. I put them in my pyrex (glass) pan with a lid because they stay cold longer when I put the lid on. I can do flowers way ahead this way just like the royal and they taste just as goodicon_smile.gif

Thanks. I always freeze my BC flowers. It gives me a min to place them without messing them up.

That pic is uploaded now.

Thanks all! I'm going to have to try that freezer thing. I decided to just do roses for the moment.....WITH the "candy kiss" center icon_smile.gif My favorite trick..... but it is GREAT to know for the future that I can do the other flowers in buttercream. I like royal icing too it's just annoying to me to make both sometimes if I don't have to. Newtodecorating, I'll definitely go take a look at your pics! Thank you all!!!
