I just bought this new cake set from Wilton. It's small cake pans that you can fill with filling. They are really cute. It would be great for individual wedding cakes for everyone. You could put a smaller cake top on the top and it would look like a wedding cake. On the box it says you can use these cake pans for salads and entrees. Has anyone tried any different recipes in these cake pans???????????????? Thanks

Sorry, I can't be of any help to you sunflowwerfreak. I did see these pans the last time I was out 'cake' shopping and thought they were really cute. I'd love to hear some feed back on these pans also.

I got them about two months ago...... thought they would make great pans for tastings (no torting, no dam work, the perfect size).
I used them and they work great.......... you can heap the filling in to fill the cavity for the top.
You just need to put alittle icing around the top before putting the seecond layer on so the cakes stick together.

Nothing fancy.... just a butter white cake (that's what the bride was thinking she wanted). It baked just fine and slipped out of the pan so easy........ just have something to do with the rest of the batter because they don't hold much........... (no wonder I need to go on a diet)

You could make a whole bunch of them and freeze them. That's a good idea though making them for a bride. That way they get to taste all of it, the cake, filling and icing. Do you decorate them a little bit just to show the bride??

I just used mine for the first time this week. I made chocolate cake, peanut butter filling with a chocolate ganache. My BF thinks the cavities for the filling are too large . . . you have to use a stronger flavored cake than the one I used in order to balance out the filling flavor. I made angel food halves today and am going to use them for strawberry shortcakes later tonight . . . the cavities are perfect for spooning berries into them.

I love them, and they were quick and easy to use . . . but like I said, we think the cavities are really big . . . for such a small cake you get a ton of filling.

Never saw them, now I gotta go check this out. Sounds like it would work great for testings. Thanks for posting, sorry I couldn't help though. icon_rolleyes.gif

I just bought the set, but only used them so far as a guide to carve a small cake out of some left over cake layers. KatieTaylor77 - Great idea for strawberry shortcake, I will have to try that too!

Yes I see what you mean by the filling being kind of large. It looks like there's more room for filling then there is cake. But I'll have to try it.

Those little cakes are adorable. The cake pans that we are talking about have 2 layers and there are round circles on each layer that are cut out. That is where the filling goes and then you put the layers together with the filling parts together. But I was thinking of putting a smaller single cake on the top of it to make it look like a little wedding cake and use them as samplers for the brides. Those cakes are sooo cute and along the line of what I am thinking.

I bought them and have made a butter cake and iced in vanilla SMBC..I decorated it like the recent floral cake in my gallery and took it to my son and his fiancee for a little present...I was thinking they would be fabulous for the cake tastings that people do ...
They were fun and you gotta love it...room for a ton of filling!!!

Is this what you are talking about, it seems like it would be great!
Would it be the right size to make a 1 serving individual cake for someone?

Yeah there was alot of room for filling and depending on the filling it could be overpowering, but the simplicity of them far outweighs that..... IMHO
And you couldn't beat the price...... $10.00 for 4 pans.
And no sunflower freak, I don't decorate cake for tastings. Too much work as far as I'm concerned for a "possible" sale. They can look at pictures to see if they like my work.
I wonder if you were really good (which doesn't include me) could you just not put two together and use the large icing tip and cover the filling. But I like sunflowerfreaks idea too of putting a small round on top, but I would probably just cut the rim off one of the other ones and put it on, or just fill the bottom cavity alittle less. Sometimes I'm lazy......... no let's call it "time management" icon_biggrin.gif

I bought these too but haven't used them yet. I like some of the ideas you all have posted so far. My thought was to freeze the cakes and put ice cream in the middle for a mini ice cream cake. YUM! The strawberry shortcake idea is fantastic.

WOW alot of info here for those little pans. JanH-thanks for all the links. I like the bottom one with the recipes in it for raspberry cream. It sounds wonderful. JaneK-your cakes are awesome. I love the Fairy Unicorn cake. Can you tell me where you found directions making the fairy and the unicorn or did you freehand them???

I just bought the mini cake pans at Michael's for $7.99 on sale.

Anyone know how much batter to put in there? It doesn't say in the instructions.

I think you just fill them 2/3 or 3/4 of the way.

I purchased these pans a few months ago and made the Berry-Licious Mini Cake with Strawberry Filling and Strawberry Buttercream Incing in the Wilton Cupcake Fun book. Placed a sliced fanned-out strawberry on top with a little piping on the bottom and they were a real hit.

I filled the pans 1/2 full and was able to get 5 halves or 2 1/2 cakes total. Next time will add more ingredients (like cake extender or sour cream) and possibly get 6 halves (3 cakes). Because I really liked how they worked I purchased another box of these little pans - they are so cute.

Personally, I would fill 2/3 full, cool in pans wiped with cake release, and then level while in the pans for a neater sliced top (soon to be the middle). thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

Just saw this at Target today in Massachusetts for $9.99 (seems like a good price). They also had the new Wilton Cupcake Fun book and LOTS of Wilton products they never had before!

Hey VAcakelady, I'll bet those would be AWESOME for ice cream cakes!! What a great idea! I have those pans & have used them several times. I do agree that the cavities are too big for just icing, but if the right kinds of fillings are used (like the ice cream idea) they're great. I like to put chocolate mousse inside & ice them with chocolate ganache.

Cookie4,

I have the cupcake book too, and it doesn't say I have to refrigerate it.

What fillings could I put in that won't need refrigeration? I'm keeping my fingers crossed this is one!

My friend wants a bunch of mini cakes to sell at her next meeting with no refrigerator!

Thanks.

oh, i have these! they are a lot of fun to make! i made a few for some friends and for my dh to take to work. of course, the people that work with dh asked him if i made them with my easy bake oven. i don't know if i should take that as an insult or not! lol

so far, i've only made a few and they are pretty simple. i haven't had time to get complicated yet.

I just used my set tonight and filled the with a DH dark fudge choc cake mix. No extender or anything special. The directions recommended 3/4 full or 1/2 cup of batter. I found that all 4 of them ended up spilling over and burning the bottom of my oven. I'm hoping I can level them and save them. I'm going to try 1/3 cup of batter and see what happens. I think I'm going to fill them with rasperry mousse and frost them with choc buttercream.

I have them. I bought them at Michael's with a 40% off coupon (9.99 original price) Each pan uses 1/2 cup of batter and you get 5 complete cake from a box of cake mix without extender . I made yellow cake, raspberry filling and chocolate frosting. Cakes are definitely big for one person (except for my husband). Finished baking all 5 complete cakes pretty quickly. I like the idea of freezing them for future use. icon_biggrin.gif

I´ve been wanting to buy this too, great thing I found this thread... now just a question, probably kind of dumb... did you all get just one set or several sets?? Since you can get 5 cakes out of one cake mix then I guess you either buy several sets of pans and bake all together OR spend hours baking re using the same one set???
