then by all means go ahead..me I will add onto my house of help someone less fortunate. Just my darned bleeding heart liberal way..lol
Too funny, that is my "darned bleeding heart conservative way" LOL I think there is a certian limit to what things are worth and beyond that it is wasteful.
I figured the whole time that the designer probably didn't make that kind of money. I was on another board and read that most of the pastry chefs who make these beautiful desserts typically make about $11 dollars an hour. So, yeah, someone is getting screwed somewhere, and I am sure not really enjoying it. ![]()

I can guarantee you that the designer made more then $11 an hour on that cake, the resort would have paid her handsomely, though if that price is the resort's of course it would have been less then the $12,000 they charged. Even if she was getting say $40 a slice, that would be about $8000.
The resort that she makes these cakes for are giving her the business (thats how it would work if I was to bake cakes for a caterer...she would most likely be buying the cakes from me, and adding a mark-up. She'd be making more money from my cakes then me-which I don't really like, but then she would be the one bringing me the business that I may not necessarily be commanding on my own.)

You can bet your bottom dollar that if the resort was willing to pay to move her from FL to PA she's not making $11 dollars an hour.
I am willing to bet that while she's not getting the entire amount for the cake. She is being rewarded quite handsomely and not just making chicken feed.
So, at $60 a slice, do you suppose the cake cuts itself?

Kidding Princessy Poo, couldn't resist!

Well Ma.... I don't suppose it does... But if you can afford to spend that much without having to bat an eyelash or worry about what others think then you can afford to hire someone to cut the cake right?
Now, if you will excuse me I need to go surf the net and do some shopping without feeling guilty about splurging...
You realize I am sure, this was my little effort to lighten this topic up right my friend? Oh well, it was as ineffective as anything else I have done lately, haha!
Off to cut a piece of my own cake that I would like to bill hubby $60 a slice for and extra for cutting...because quite frankly, I am worth it and yeah, I really am married to Richard Gere in my dreamworld.
Yea I know... ![]()
Chapt...my intention was not to dog anyone...Just questioning if ANY cake is worth that kinda money. And stating as individuals whether or not WE would feel justified in paying that. I don't think anything of someone accepting any price they can get. And as someone else brought up..all of that might not even go to the decorator. I more question the sanity of someone who spends that kinda $ on a cake. I also agree w/ cakeman on the statement that if I could do cakes like that a few a year would be great...and one a month would be awesome!
OK, folks..whole new can of worms..lol..to me it would be even more annoying if the resort makes more from the cake than the artist!...I mean granted, they have the business set up provide the clientele etc. but to make more than the artist themselves on a cake would be insulting! ..lol..just my take.
