Hello all...I'll be decorating 24 vanilla cupcakes for a party at a sci-fi convention this weekend (I know, NERD!). I've decided to go with a blue frosting (not dark, though, just a nice blue) and have also cut out over 100 little yellow fondant stars (each star is a tad bigger than the tip of your pinkie).
I'm trying to decide if I should just frost the cupcakes flat with an icing spatula, then stick the stars in the frosting standing up...or lay them flat...or pipe the frosting on in a swirl and drop the stars in...I don't know! I also have some luster dust that I was thinking of applying to the stars. This might be a dumb question, but can I just dump all the dried stars into a baggie and pour in a bit of dust and shake?
Any advice appreciated. FYI, the cupcakes are in the freezer. I will frost them Friday morning before we leave, and then apply the stars on Saturday right before the party so the fondant doesn't start melting into the frosting.
I think if you pipe the icing and then drop the stars that would look the best IMO; has for the luster dust you can just put the stars in a baggie with the luster dust it works great.
I like the idea of using the large tip for that cool swirl effect. I've done fondant pieces with luster dust placed in a covered bowl and just give a nice shake. They turn out great! I have some white pearls on a tiered cake in my photos that were dusted using this method. Good luck and post pics!
You're all talking about the star tip, right? It's my favorite for cupcakes. And I'm glad I can just shake the dust onto the stars. I was starting to panic, thinking I might have to do them all by hand!
Thanks for the kind words about my cupcakes. I've been lurking here for so long that I figured maybe I should upload some pics. I'll post pics of how these come out.
