I just finished designing both St. Patrick's Day and Easter cookies, but I am not ready to sell it yet because I feel it's a little too late. So I decided to use it to take pictures of it and put it on my website for next year's holidays.

Now, I'm thinking of the next holidays this year. That mean:

*Mother's Day
*Father's Day
*Summer things
*July 4th

Do you think those holidays listed above are the good time for me to work on the design now? Which holidays are the best seller? I know Valentine's and Christmas are one of them. Do you design cookies now to prepare for later holidays?

I don't think you're too late for Easter. Any way I'm preparing for Children's day (Apr 30 in Mexico), MOther's Day, Teacher day (May 15th) and Graduations. Haven't thought about Father's day, but I should plan something.

When I am not doing orders, I am always doing test cookies for upcoming holidays/events. Right now I am doing sample cookies for Mother's/Father's Day, graduation, and summer stuff.
I don't think it is too late for Easter either.

Solecito, not to get off subject here, but is Teachers Day the 15th or the 8th?? On my calander, it shows it is the 8th, just want to make sure I get it right because I also plan to make cookies for that day.

I also do not think you are too late for Easter, you still have several weeks!

Whenever I have some time, I bake a batch of cookies and play. I either do something like (for example) make several of my giant strawberry cookies using my giant strawberry cookie cutter and take lots of pix. I play with various colors and combinations and patterns. OR I get out my holiday cutters and have it! Some of the best inspiration I get is from color, like the colors of the flowers at a flower market can give me inspiration for some cool colors on various shaped cookies. Have fun with it!! icon_biggrin.gif

In Mexico we celebrate it on the 15th, I wasn't sure in the USA you have a Teacher's day, as we call it. I've heard about Teacher's Appreciation Day, which I think might be the same, but I didn't know the date. It's just like Children's Day, we celebrate kids up to 12 yo on Apr 30th. The schools have parties and festivities. I don't know if there's a holiday like that in the US

I don't think it's ever too early to plan cookie designs! Valentine's Day is my biggest seller, but Mother's Day is a very close second! Teacher's Day could also be VERY huge, I just haven't promoted it as well in the past! Good luck and be sure to post your results!

You know, I have a really big apple cookie cutter which would lend itself to teacher's day... icon_cool.gif

Thanks Solecito. We celebrate what is called National Teachers Day on May 8th. I did not realize it was differant in Mexico.

An apple cookie cutter is a great idea for Teachers Day bobwonderbuns! I also have a big cookie cutter of a school house so I think that would be really cute but a lot of work. I am not sure how I am going to plan this out for my daughters teachers since I am scheduled to be induced with baby #3 on May 4th!

bobwonderbuns, we do not know the sex of the baby. We have a girl and a boy so we decided to let this one be a surprise! I almost quit cake decorating because of this pregnancy! I was sooo sick that I could not even stand the site of anything cake and I could not open my cake cupboard because the smell would make me sick. I could not even make my sons 2nd birthday cake which was supossed to be a 3D truck. Thankfully my daughters 5th birthday was the beginning of January which helped get me back into it, she was talking about the Strawberry Shortcake Cake she wanted for months so I was happy I was finally well enough to attmept it.
Who knows what my motivation is going to be like after #3 though... icon_cry.gif

Hey, so I'm planning to do some for my kids' favorite teachers using an apple, hand, school house, rectangle decorated like a black board w/white lettering, wide pencil & ruler (I don't have the cookie cutter so I'll just cut some 1-1/2" x 4" wide strips, use some as rulers and cut the corners on the rest so they have pencil points). You'd be surprised how quick any holiday cookies sell if you ask for permission to leave them in the teachers' lounge (on the honor system) with a small price sticker and your card taped to the back. The day before Valentines day I dropped off 2 bouquets (3 cookies in coffee mug containers) and 4 lip cookies (1 per box with a few Hershey kisses included) and the day after that Val. snow day, the secretary called to ask if I wanted my son to bring all the $ home. Gotta love those last minute shoppers (ok, so the price was really low too cause they were last minute ideas). I think the principal agreed cause it wasn't like soliciting the teachers directly (no one was pressured into buying). icon_biggrin.gif
