I need help. I made buttercream last night and I did it the same way I always do. EXCEPT now it won't crust. What can I do. Do I just wait a while longer and see if it does. Can I add something to the remaining buttercream and put it over the top so that I can smooth it? Please someone help me.

have you tried adding more sugar or merigue powder?

If the cake is already frosted, the only thing I can think of is to put a small fan blowing on it for a short time. Maybe that will work?

If you've already iced the cake (I'm assuming you have), you will probably need to smooth it another way. Using the "hot knife" method always works for me.

Thanks everyone. It took quite a while but it finally crusted a little bit. Enough so that I could smooth it. I had more problems with this cake than any other I have done.
