OK , I tried my first ever fondant covered cake, it went well till the very end. I Had ALOT of fondant that seemed to bunch up in one area, the pic shows to neat part, how do I make it neat all the way around? Did I not roll out enough? any help would be great, oh this was my first attempt at any cake decortating, and tried the brush embroidert technique, it came out ok, what could I have done differntly? Thanks a bunch!

Welcome to cake central. the cake looks pretty good, from what I can see. Fondant has to be sort of 'unstretched' at the bottom. It helps if you elevate the cake a bit so you can work below the bottom edge of the cake to work out the excess.

There is a video at atecousa.com that might help you.

good luck

its kinda tricky sometimes. you need to make sure you smooth it in a downward motion, not side to side. and as you smooth, arrange the fondant so that the excess hangs down over the edge, and not all bunched up together.

Personally fondant loves to give me a hard time! Try what was mentioned before and elevate your cake. Also, do you have a fondant smother? It is a little plastic thing you can buy at Micheals or a bake supply store. It helps a bit but is not neccesary. You can also use the palm of your hand and with straight downward motions smooth your fondant, trim the extra as you go. Dont smooth it to the sides because it will cause bunching at the ends. Good luck!!!!
