How do you make cookies with the smooth icing?! I don't much care for royal icing, is their a way with buttercream? Thanks so much!

You can make it with powdered sugar, karo and milk.

You will have to adjust to make more:

1 cup powderd sugar
2 tsp. Karo Syrup
2 tsp. milk

Mix well--may have to add a bit more powdered sugar. I just kind of play with it until it behaves.

You can also add a flavoring to royal icing. I asked the same of Colette Peters and she suggested to add vanilla or any other flavoring to royal icing.

Thanks! Will the icing be very thin? Do I just pour it on the cookies? or do a pipe a border and then fill it in?

When I used this icing, I added more powdered sugar so it wouldn't be so thin. But sometimes I let it cover the entire cookie and the sides. Just depended on my mood or the design. I now mainly use royal icing recipe. Have you tried antonia74's recipe. I believe it is in the rcipe or maybe the how-to gallery.

Antonia74's recipe is a royal icing.

Give Alice cookie icing a try Heather, also, i believe in the COOKIE FORUM some one mentioned something about using rolled buttercream. Have a look there.

i use rolled fondant, just roll the fondant out to the desired thickness and cut with the same cutter as used for the cookie, moisten the back of the fondant with alittle water and stick it to the cookie, wala, cookie is all iced.
