If you look at my pictures you can see a baby peeking out from under a blanket..... maybe something along that line with the caption of "Have I got news for you!"......

I like the bun idea - but instead of putting a cinnamon bun on top, make the cake look like a bun - maybe?

you should find out what his interest are. if he likes hunting, fishing, golf, cars.... whatever he enjoy's, then incorporate that into designing the cake.

I am late getting in on this and haven't read all the posted replies, but here is my idea. It is nearing Easter time. I would make a Panorama sugar egg in pastels, with a peep hole and tucked inside would be a little baby made of fondant or gumpaste. Place the egg on top of an appropriately decorated cake.

That's really cute!

Ummmm.....could you do a bun in an oven?

Or....kinda crude, but if they're a fun couple...you could make a fortune cookie-shaped cake with a fortune that says "He who makes a deposit gets a withdrawal in 9 months." lol My husband would love it! lol

notice I said "WE'RE" inferring the weight of the child! and not the mystery number mom gained (very rude to ask or mention that!)

I love all of these ideas - my only advice is to be pretty direct to make sure he "gets" it right away. When I told my hubby about our first baby, we had just moved into a new house and i told him I wanted to paint the guest room but needed help deciding between two colors. I handed him two paint chips - one was bubble gum pink, the other was bright blue. I stood there, anxiously, waiting to get swept up in his arms and instead I got, "Really? I don't like either of them. Can't we go more neutral?".

It seems a little rude to make the cake about gaining weight. It's a baby announcement cake, for crying out loud! LOL It should be positive, not superficial! icon_biggrin.gif

If mom has already had an ultrasound, perhaps the pic in an edible image?

I really liked the idea about making the cake about the daddy. "Happy Father's Day" was a great suggestion!

I hope she isn't waiting until after her ultrasound to tell her husband!

Hey, how about handcrafting some of those lovely marzipan (not) babies?? That would be awesome. icon_smile.gif

I like the simplicity of well iced cake...a blue ribbon with a thinner overlapped pink ribbon at the base of the cake. gumpaste booties in white or pale yellow on top.

I gained 50 with the first and she was only 4 pounds 12 ounces LOL
The rest I only gained 5, 8, 10, and 7 pounds. Of course I was still holding onto the fiifty from first baby! LOL

Yep, I was thinking the exact same thing. 1st thing that popped in my mind and then I read what Doug first said about the Dummies. How about a book cake with the title reading "Dummies for 1st time Daddy's" or something along those lines or even with his name in the title. Whatever Doug said...LOL...but on a Dummies book. Can't get any more obvious than that. icon_smile.gif

dyeana,
I love your suggestion. What a creative brain you have! Let's hope I can keep it in mine should the need for that arise.
