hi everyone,

I just got the 6 quart professional and I have a question for those of you that have and use one. Since there is no tilt head, how do you get the bowl in and out without making a mess or removing the beater piece everytime you want to check things mid mixing?? Or even at the end? Is there some trick to this?

Thanks!
Angela

it's just like the pro 5 that I have. I've never been able to get the mixing bowl out, without taking the whip or hook, or "beater" off first.

Im a newbie here, but I do have the same one, when I want to add something or to scrape down the sides of the bowl I stop the mixer and lower the bowl thats the only way I can do it .

I'm with cakeman66, I always have to remove the beater. At first I thought this mixer was a pain in the rear because I was used to the tilt, but I love it now. I use to like to lift the tilt up and down to check my icing consistency, now I just take the beater off, tilt the bowl forward and dip the beater in and out. Or I use a spatula. You'll just have to get used to it.

I have the 6 qt also it's the only one I've ever had so I dont know the convenience of the tilt. You cant miss what you never had, right icon_biggrin.gif . I do the same thing I take off the beater off to check it.

I just lower the bowl and dip my spatula in.

I have the exact same mixer and you have to remove the beater attachment in order to remove your bowl. (not unless you want a mess) If you just want to scrape down the bowl or check it's consistency, just stop the mixer and lower the bowl!!!!! I even switch on and off real quick to move the paddle around if I need to!

I've had my mixer for four years and love the arm to raise and lower the bowl! I've never liked the tilt ones. I have had them fall down on me!!

Ditto, I just lower the bowl to check it. I have also had the tilt head version, but i like the bowl lift much better.

Ok, thanks for the responses. I just thought I must be missing something! I am sure I'll get used to it.

The other thing I wonder is if you guys have and use a pouring shield? My mixer was refurbished, so didn't come with one, and it looks like the sheild might be a good investment. I never really needed it with my 4.5 quart, but I think the wide bowl makes for more potential "sugar blowing". Am I right?

I never use mine its more of a hassle to me, but it may work for you.

I use mine but only because I have had a couple of incidents where the sugar blows back up and all over the place. Although it does crack my daughter up I'd rather it not happen.

a cheap way to avoid blow back is I drape a kitchen towel over the mixer until the dust has cleared and proceed as usual.
This is so much easier than dealing with the shield.

First time I used mine, I put in the powder sugar and turned it on and bammm it was like it was snowing in my kitchen! I love my KA 6!
