Hi, I don't know much about cake decorating and I've seen really nice decorations made with royal icing. I would like to try making some Royal Icing flowers and I'm going to frost my cake with bc ...... any tips?

You could start with some simple drop flowers or apple blossoms. They don't need much time to dry. Daisies aren't too hard either. Remember to keep all bowls connected with the royal icing completely grease free! Good luck and have fun!

Keep everything covered in saran wrap and put your decorating bag under a moist cloth when not in use so it does not dry out.

Royal icing flowers break down when put onto BC icing so be careful not to put them on too soon. Also the moisture when refrigerated will make them soft.

thanks for the tips. I didn't know that bc will make them break ... should I use fondant instead?

Remember too that you can keep royal icing in a bowl on the counter for up to 2 weeks. So if you find you are having a hard time, try again tomorrow.
