Hi all,

This is my 1st time doing this ?!?
I am also a cake decorating virgin, it is my daughters birthday party on the 25th of March and I can't find a shop bought cake that is big enough for the 40 children we have invited (yes that is 40!!!! arrrgh). My daughter is going to be 6 and loves all things girly does anyone have any ideas of something to get me started. I can cook and do make cakes but nothing on this scale.

There a dozens of options, like a doll cake on a larger base, or even cupcakes. I would suggest you look in the gallery here for an idea you like and think you can handle and PM the decorator for some tips.

With all children you may have alot of wasted cake, what about cupcakes, then maybe your daughter can let you know how she would like them decorated.

I love doing cupcakes, you can go out and buy the 1M tip at Michaels to make that cool (store bought look swirl) and then place a party favor or candy in the center....party places often have theme'd little toys, candies etc that will work. You can see the swirl I am talking about in my photos, like the superbowl cupcakes.......and its EASY....to make the table top even better, use a 40% coupon and buy the cupcake tree and it makes a nice display (I think so anyway)!

Maybe bake two smaller size (1/4 sheet or so) cakes...and maybe color/decorate one pink and one purple (or whatever colors she likes)---is there a theme for the party?

You still have a few weeks... maybe you could get some cute princess cake toppers or something along those lines (to minimize the actual decorating for you).

HTH!
