What is the difference between shimmer dust and luster dust? icon_redface.gif Hobby lobby carries shimmer dust but not luster dust. Another store in town sells luster dust. I want to make sure I get the right thing. I will be making edible pearls and painting buttercream. Which should I get?

You want Luster dust or pearl dust for the pearls.

Shimmer Dust is Wilton's verson. It is courser than petal, pearl or luster dust (which is really fine).

The cake store in my town quit selling luster dust because it is not FDA approved for food consumption. Does this mean that you're really not supposed to use it? I'm confused. I really want to use it.

shimmer dust from wilton is something you sprinkle on like sugar. It does not dissolve in alcohol like the other dusts. Believe me I tried and ended up with a clumpy mess.
