I need to make an airplane cake for Saturday and I want to do a carved cake which I have never done. Is it hard to do or should I just go the basic beginner route? Is this a big task to take on to be presenting at a party? Also, how do I carve a cake anyhow? Need input.....what would you all do?

For me, if it is an important event, I stick to what I know. You could check out the gallery. If you see one you like, you could send a PM to the designer and ask them for tips.

I am sure you can do it. Just plan out how you are going to carve it ahead of time. Freeze the cake first, I wouldnt use any fillings except for buttercream, carve away!
