Hi everyone, a friend wants me to put two rings intertwined design on bridal shower cake. I have gold highlighter, but it can only be use on non-edible items. icon_sad.gif The cake is all chocolate, 12x18 either single or double layer sheet, customer does not care if either or. Does any one have any suggestions of what to do here and I am press for ideas cause customer will pick-up cake on Saturday. Wording on cake is going to be pink and white with chocolate top and bottom borders. TIA and greatly appreciate all your efforts. Have a great night.

could make them out of gumpaste or RI and paint gold.

both could then easily be removed before serving.

I really wouldn't try drawing this, but I like Doug's idea.

You are just awesome Doug.

When I think intertwined I see something so different than that, but I'm always over complicating things.

Hi Doug, even though the gold paint should not be put on edible things; ok to play it safe and not have any one get sick and then it comes back on me. I want to play it safe. Maybe I can put plastic wrap under the painted gold rings, but first ice the plastic wrap first and let the customer know that the rings are not edible cause of the paint. I was thinking about buying the rings and just placing them on the cake or on top of chocolate cover plastic wrap, but customer wanted the rings intertwined design and I am between a rock and a hard place with this one. Maybe I'll just make them in white icing and sprinkle some gold or silver edible glitter on them. Doug, what are your thoughts of my ideas. I like your idea and the drawing is great, better than what I can do. Wait to hear from you. By the way, thanks for your help both ideas and drawing. icon_smile.gif

couldnt you make the rings our of fondant or RI and then paint them with gold luster dust? that is if you can get your hands on luster dust before saturday.

Doug I love your drawing that's exactly what I thought when I read intertwined but I would not have been able to draw it so well.

i would vote for the gold luster dust if available and put it on RI or gumpaste rings.

when making rings, could embed short (1/2?) toothpicks in back of them so can actually have them stand up off the cake for a slight 3-D effect (or if they are wide enough ... use sugarcubes to hold them above cake surface

WOW Doug, this is great, I love this one cause of the heart, but I also like the other one too. Only wish that I had some gold/silver edible beads. Maybe Michael's might have them and can send someone out to get them for me by Friday. I'm cutting this too close, I was only given short notice. Worse come to worse, I'll have to use aluminum foil and make one and maybe do a couple of umbrellas. What are your thoughts Doug? Thank you for your help, greatly appreciated. icon_smile.gif

if you do gumpaste ropes those too would be ready for Friday.

doubt will find edible beads at michaels

tho' you can make your own beads/pearls from fondant (roll out, use round tip to cut small equal size circles, then roll into ball. hit w/ luster dust in color of choice.)

Wow, Doug, you can come up with great ideas. I will attempt to do this, but not sure how and if it will come out the way you would do yours. icon_cry.gif I always say to myself, if only my decorating ways/method would come out the way my cakes taste, I would be somewhat happy, cause in order to be completely happy, both taste and decorating of a cake has to be complete. Maybe I am just be picky. I do have a good taste when it comes to cake tasting test, but for decorating cakes, I am far from perfection. Maybe I just need to do more practicing even if it is a hour a day. My schedule is so hectic that I try to squeeze in at least a half hour twice a week. But I am giving up, just got to pace myself and take my time. There are people that want me to show them how to bake cakes cause they like the way they taste, but I can't afford to give away all of my techniques cause I might not have business. I might show people that want to learn one of the same recipe. but not all of my good recipes. I have done lots of searches for them and I don't mind sharing, but I can't give away the ones that I have spent many hours in adjustment ingredients just to make it right and tasteful cause that takes a lot of work and time if you know what I mean. So like I was saying, I would like my decorating to be just as perfect as my baking so that it can all blend together. Doug, you are such a great help here at CC and I truly appreciate it very much. icon_smile.gif

Doug, where can I get gold luster dust shipped by Friday? Also, instead of the alcohol that they sell at state stores, what else can I use to mix into the gold luster dust if I were to find the dust. Cause I do not drink nor do I feel comfortable asking any one for any type of alcohol. Can I use vanilla extract instead? Thanks again Doug. icon_smile.gif

that depends upon where you live.

any cake supply stores nearby?

if not would have to check online for place near you and see if they can do FedEx or overnight UPS.

and ditto on using lemon or almond extract.
