A dampened sponge also works well, just dampen, squeeze out any excess water and gently pounce over any rough parts. You can use new makeup sponges or cleaning sponges.

Haha, everyone is a smart alec, haha, the "new" was supposed to refer to both makeup sponges and cleaning sponges, you character you!

I like the interfacing idea. Quick question, Whe I smooth cakes that have colored icing I always seem to get variations in color, how di I avoid this if using a sponge that would most likely have some moisture left in it?
