I am making an artifical cake for display.
I'm assembling it so the teir looking like they are tilted, as you can see in the picture. in the spaces on each tier I was thinking of doing brightly coloured gumpaste roses. Pink, yellow and orange (kind of a spring feel).
currently it is just covered in white fondant.
i am just thinking that it'll look too plain if i do just the white fondant, so i think I should perhaps pipe a simple design on it or do poke-a-dots.. but then i'm undecided about the colour.

another thing i was thinking is if I do jagged pieces of dark chocolate layered around the sides... hummmm

one other thing i am doing, i am making a bride a groom on the top, but gonna have them trying to hang on for dear life.. like have them sliding off the top!!

i really need some suggestions.. please help!

I like the idea of filling the spaces with flowers. I don't think I would also add the chocolate pieces. perhaps dots- but not too many. And the falling bride/groom sounds fitting for this cake.

I love how you have it set up I wonder how that would work with real cake? I like the idea of the britght flowers and the bride and groom but i think The construction is so eye catching as is if you add to many things it might seem to busy if you were to add dots I would do it in white.

why don't you do paper and then add the designs on the fondant dots, scrolls and such ,I think if you go with flowers may be some pearls or it will be too much attention from the roses to add dots and scrolls to the fondant cool display that will be just what I think

If that were a real cake would it stay up on those dowels like that or slide down and fit flat? Thanks I haven't ventured that far YET................ icon_lol.gif

Two suggestions.
first, when making tilted cake is good to have the bottom one flat for support
The other is that you are right, the figures on top of a tilted cake don't look right, unless you sculpt humorous ones that look like they are helping each-other not to fall, or something funny like that.

How did you do that?

Like the bride and groom idea!

Fill the spaces with flowers. I dont see how the chocolate would work with this. I would keep with a white on white design. Maybe enhance it with lustre dust to make it stand out a big more?

I too think it maybe best to have the bottom tier flat, and just the flowers and dots sound just right and not too busy.... fantastic idea with the bride and groom helping each other.... cant wait to see your finished cake..its going to look brilliant

I would never trust this support for a real cake. Unless the dowels were anchored somehow, they would slide for sure. I use foam wedges in between my layers with dowels running straight through them...even through the base.
I also agree that the bottom layer is usually flat, but if it works for you, then go for it....

I too think it is best to have the bottom tier flat, I love the flowers idea, but not the chocolate one and I think just a bright color ribbon around the cake would do it, in my opinion dots and scrolls would be too much, and the bride and groom hanging would make the perfect final touch.
can't wait to see it finished!
