I used to have a little fridge on my back patio but it was old and since it gets easily to 110 in the summer, it runs and runs and runs constantly to keep it cool...long story short, it was costing $70 per month icon_surprised.gif so I had to get rid of it and now I am pulling my hair out. I have 4 kids and a double door fridge in the house but I can barely fit all our stuff in it, let alone keep a shelf cleared for cakes, etc. Just wondering what you other homebakers do?

Wehave an extra fridge and a small chest freezer in our garage and don't really use either of them much. They aren't even plugged in icon_redface.gif I only plug in the extra fridge if I know I have a large order coming up.

We have a side-by-side upstairs, and then downstairs I have a small under the counter, a refrigerator companion, a freezer companion and our old fridge-the ones with the freezer on top and a fridge on bottom, it's about 20 years old. We actually just did this survey form the electric dept. on the energy we are using, the only one really costing very much is the old one. Oh, and we also have a deep freezer! Somehow we still run out of room from time to time.

I started out with a small apartment fridge and that did it for a while (just for icing and such). But, now I have a full size and sometimes still have to use the smaller one. So, three fridges going in our house. I must be crazy!

We have a basement, and I have 2 freezers, and 2 refrigerators down there just for cake stuff. The only thing I hate is having to carry the stuff down there. They sure do come in handy though especially when a busy week comes up. I think next week I have 8 cakes to get out, so it allows me to get things done ahead of time.

I have two fridges which I had before I even started doing cakes. The fridge in the kitchen is counter depth so shallower than most fridges so it holds nothing. The second fridge is in the laundry room and was the beer fridge until I started my cake decorating obsession. Now it is full of cakes, buttercreams and sweet stuff, I frequently have to move out the beer to make more cake room much to my husband's despair.

Guess I need to pursue the cake thing more thoroughly and then if it takes off, I can afford the 'extra' fridge.... could really use it but because of the heat, it makes no sense to have it if it is in the garage since it gets over 100 out there too.........power company said running the extra fridge in summer costs people alot - even when they are newer..I would like to get an energy star one *sigh*

Up until 7 months ago I had 2 refridgerators, 2 stove/ovens & 2 deep freezers....one fridge and freezer were dedicated soley for my baking stuff......I've been through a divorce and moved to another satate and am by myself and with one fridge only, I am finding I don't have any room....as soon as I am able I will purchase a 2nd one....they are almost a must for the baker!

I have a second fridge in the garage as well as a large freezer. I have never noticed the energy bills being too excessive. It is terrific for Thanksgiving, extra sodas, and of course cookies and cakes!

I only have one fridge but I have a stand up freezer in my basement. Its really old and it was here when we bought our house last June. I'd love to get another fridge just for my baking...so much easier.

Well, I usually make my cakes the night before, so I don't refrigerate... I decorate the morning of too....

If it's a european style cake, I have space in my fridge though...

NOT ALL FRIDGES are created equal. We had the standard small freezer on top, fridge on bottom = average size with just two shelves on the door. But then we got a slightly wider one, slightly taller and MUCH better organization. overall, cubic feet is about the same, but USEABLE square feet is 1.5 times more...

So, if you don't have room for two fridges, get one good one and get rid of all those extras that cost a lot of money, and if not properly maintained, actually are UNHEALTHY!..... those water dispensers? make you lose space... ice makers? lose space...

Btw... side by sides have much less useable space..

And having the freezer on bottom (I preferred the door over the drawer) means that the fridge part, the most used, is at eyel level, not the freezer....

I LOVE our new fridge - despite it being bought from a sears' outlet store... We paid DELIVERED liek $700 for it! LOL GOOD RIDDANCE old Kenmore from the early 80s! LOL

My first "serious" investment was a fridge for cake stuff only. I got a big one with a big freezer on the top. I simply love it, and it is more professional.

I actually have 3 fridges also. I have one in the basement but hate to use it....I don't like lugging the cakes up and down our steep stairs. I have a small one in the bedroom that we keep drinks in to make more room in the kitchen. My DH is great though.......if I need a cake taken downstairs, he is more than willing to do it. He loves to help out and loves to see what I come up with next. He is so supportive!

When my fridge started leaking all over my laminate floor it destroyed the floor and both had to be replaced. The old fridge is now in the garage (where I don't care about the floor). Somehow I still end up using both fridges for my cakes.

For awhile I only had one fridge but when I had a cake due it was horrible. Never enough room. So I was lucky enough to get an old one from a friend who was getting rid of hers for a new one. I keep it in the basement but it is a pain carrying the cakes up and down the stairs.

This got me thinking and I bet I am really going to need another one but DH is starting to get a little freaked out at the money I am spending, though I told him can you imagine if we were opening a bakery NOT in our house. Anyway my point is...I looked on Craig's list and there are a ton of people who moved into a new house with all appliances and are selling their used refrigerators. So that might be a good place to check.

I would be LOST without our extra fridge! It's in our garage, and I use it for cakes and extra bottled drinks. We also have a commercial freezer in our garage that I sometimes use if I have a lot of cake orders and can't store them all in the top freezer of the extra fridge. I also have four children, so we need the extra freezer space!

We have a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer in our kitchen that we use for all "non-cake business" food. Then there's a top freezer/bottom fridge in our garage that is for the cake business only. We also have a chest freezer in the basement that comes in very handy when I have a very busy week.
