I keep reading about doctor cakes. What are those? This sounds like something I should try since I can't seem to get it right. Can someone please tell me what this is? how many of you really do doctor cakes as possoed to using cake mixes or doing from scratch?

they are cake mixes that have added extra ingredients to them. You can find recipes on this site or go to www.cakemixdoctor.com

I just recently bought the cake mix doctor book from Barnes and Noble and I really like it so far. I've only used a couple of the recipes but they have been really good. The only problem I'm having so far is almost all the recipes call for cake mixes that don't have pudding already in them. That is getting harder and harder to do. I've been able to find a couple of my store brand-generic cake mixes and they work fine, but the name brands all seem to have pudding in them now.
A lot of other people on this site use flavored coffee creamers instead of water in their mixes, it sounds good I just haven't tried it yet.

To be honest, I have never really paid attention to wether or not the mix has pudding in it. DH does not add pudding. If you mix has pudding already in, and the recipe calls for it, you can just not add it or add a small amount more. Your end outcome should still be good.

I've made the recipes in the cake mix doctor book with cake mixes that have pudding in the cake and they turned out fine.

So mouse did you add the pudding that the cake doctor recipe called for or just leave it out?

When I made the amaretto cake I added the pudding that the recipe called for.
That cake was soo good, I also had added 2 cups of the buttermilk devil's food cake mix batter (recipe from same book) and it sooooooooo delicious.

The buttermilk devil's food cake is to die for! I bet it was really good mixed with the amaretto. Might have to give that one a try!

Since I bought the Cake Mix Dr's book I don't use any other recipes!! The Humming Bird cake is so soft & yummy!!! The Sour Cream Yellow cake is what I'm using for my wedding cake. It is very moist, not crumbly & firm enough to use for stacked cakes! The Buttermilk Choc cake it VERY good I use that for my groom's cakes!!! I've done the Coke cake too. I LOVED THAT ONE!! I think that's my favorite! I use RC instead because I don't like coke. I'm a pepsi/ RC drinker when I drink sodas. Which isn't that often. I have tried othercakes too & love them. The icings are very good too!! If you don't have the book get it!! ~TC~

I agree with TC- definitely worth the money. I want to get the Chocolate Cake Mix Doctor book next, and then the Cupcake Cake Mix Doctor (soon to be released) after that.
