I am SOOOOOOO excited to get to make my favourite cake I've ever seen. I have an order for this cake for 300 guests, so it will be a huge 5 tier wedding cake + slabs hidden in the kitchen. Each tier will be about 5" to 6" tall, so she'll be 4 feet tall with the cake stand. The largest I've ever done.

Oh...and it will be a triple-layer Dark Chocolate cake with two layers of Bittersweet Dark Chocolate buttercream and tons of fresh raspberries between each layer. YUM!

I should also add, this cake was from the magazine "Grace Ormande" and the cake is from a bakery in Chicago called "Take the Cake"? I looked it up online, but I could only find a place that made something called "Ugly Truffles" in Chicago, no cakes by the look of it? Confusing!

Anyway, the bride and groom said to check out the "Grace Ormande" magazine because it is really awesome for weddings and has lots of amazing cakes in it. Anyone heard of it?????

I just Googled the "Grace Ormonde" site online. Nice! The cakes are pretty, but there weren't many to see. More of a resource site really.

Anyway, how am I going to do it? Fondant for sure.

I'll let you know when it's done, I guess! icon_lol.gif

That cake is fabulous!! I have a question as I am fondant impaired. Do you apply the circles after the base of fondant or do you cut out the circles and replace with the color after the fondant is on the cake? Told ya' fondant impaired! icon_redface.gif

yup...this is going to be a fun one! it's in March, so I'll keep you all posted.

Dodibug, you would ice the cake in buttercream, cover it smoothly in the base fondant colour THEN apply the circle design overtop in the 2nd colour. I use just a thin thin coating of water (no wetter than a stamp!) to my fondant pieces, then they just stick together.

The one thing is....once it's stuck on, it's NOT coming off, so you have to be careful.

That cake is also my favorite cake. I have it stored in "my favorites" because I would love to make it one day. I am hoping to make it in pink and brown which are my favorite colors. GOOD LUCK!!!
