Personally, I think it's hilarious that they used to advertise it with 'a pleasant flavor' and now they just say it gives you a smooth surface and it suitable for all kinds of decorations. They are more realistic now! hehe icon_lol.gif

Dear CC members,

No, I am not listening. I'm busy rolling around in all my money.

Hahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! icon_lol.gif

So he DID find a way to take it with him! He's rolling around in a coffin full of cash! Honestly though, your joke rings with truth. Why put effort into improving something that a billion people are still buying. We should boycott it! icon_twisted.gif

ok, everyone, i found the Totonac's vanilla! Hopefully, this is the stuff CakeLadyM was talking about.

www.arizonavanilla.com

now, the page is kinda messed up, guess they need a good web site designer, but if you click on the picture of the vanilla bottle on the top of the page, you can get to another jumbled page where you can order, but hopefully this is the stuff.

CakeLadyM, please take a look at the pic and let us know if this is the correct label so I can order some.

Heres some vanilla paste with that same name. http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&rh=n%3A3602541%2Cp_4%3ATotonac&page=1

I wonder if you can add vodka to it & it still be the same? icon_rolleyes.gif

Hey, Y'all! icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the links, but sadly--no. That's not the same one.

I DID order some of that, though--just to see if it's similar! It does come from the same people, and the same region. So---We'll see!

I'll definitely let y'all know if it's as good. I just ordered today.

I looked it up, and this is the place I got my Mexican vanilla:

http://www.loscincosoles.com/mainwelcome.htm

It is natural gourmet vanilla and it has a wonderful flavor, it smells like regular natural vanillla mixed with some Hawaian tropic suntan lotion, sort of sweetly spicy. It is really nice in fondant, it adds a lot. This website says you can contact them directly by emal to order, I don't know if they will ship vanilla though.

Hope this helps!

I agree that the Wilton Fondant (and anything else Wilton for that matter)really sucks. And that includes their hard goods. I wonder what it would take for them to change their products and make something with some quality to it???

MAVERICKSMOMMY: Sorry, but that link doesn't work for me. icon_cool.gif

And yes! The way you've described your vanilla is exactly like the way the Totonac's smelled! Vanilla-ey, with a hint of coconut-ey! Warm, with an intoxicatingly soft soft soft hint of almond, even.

Could you maybe re-post the link? Thanks!

WILTON'S FONDANT! Hands down, that's the worst!

A close second though are those gross frosting tubes that they sell at stores like Safeway. I can't even begin to get near those -- bad childhood memories there!

(Looking for emoticon that shows the "blah" -- tongue hanging out of mouth!)

For those of you still watching this, I just received the Totonac brand vanilla, from Arizona Vanilla Company.

It smells divine. Although it doesn't exactly have that yummy, warm "coconut suntan lotion-y" smell that the original Mexican vanilla did, that my friend had brought me from her Mexican/Caribbean cruise----

It's still WONDERFUL smelling, and has a nice, clean aromatic presence. Heady and dark, with just the slightest note of um....maybe...I want to say it's almost peppery?? Yeah. That's it, kind of peppery!

It's WONDERFUL, and their customer service/shipping is top rate. I'd highly recommend them to anyone wanting some awesome Mexican vanilla. They have beans, paste and extract, as well as a few other vanilla-themed items.
