My husband's grandpa's funeral will be soon (within a week) & we have to travel 3 hrs there. But I was thinking I would do a cake for when the family gets together after the funeral. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should write on it? Or should I just make a cross, or decorate with flowers? I haven't seen any cakes on here for this occasion.....and I just want it to look nice, but don't want it to say anthing that might sound dumb or anything. Plus, I have never had to travel so far with a cake in my car not to mention our bags, pillows, etc.... thanks in advance for any info or ideas icon_smile.gif Gwenn

If it were me I would just make a cross with stained glass look and some flowers on it. I wouldn't write anything because it's difficult to find the right words in times such as these. The cake will say it all. I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope your cake turns out well.

I agree. I would just do a simple but elegant cross. Maybe make the flowers in his favorite color if you know what it was....
Very sorry for your loss.

thank you two for your ideas..........I was thinking the cross, or a half sheet with the poem (that was also on my dads service paper):

"God saw you getting tired & a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you & whispered, ""Come to Me".
With tearful eyes we watched you,
and saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
we could not make you stay.
A Golden heart stopped beating,
hard working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us.
He only takes the best. "

I love this poem, but I am thinking that will take up the entire half sheet. I think I will go with the cross....any other ideas?
Thank you for your condolences!

I have seen cakes at funerals, but they have been undecorated except for a plain border. I think it's kind of tricky to think of a "theme" for this kind of cake--the cross sounds lovely. If it were one of my family members (a bunch of comedians), I might make a cake commemorating a hobby of the deceased--(fishing, sewing, gardening, sports), but of course that would depend on the personality of whoever passed.

So sorry to learn of your family's loss.

Sorry to hear about your loss. What about a half sheet with a bible verse since the poem is too long?

Sorry for your loss Gwenn, I think just a simple white cake with a single red rose to symbolize love ?
