I need to make a groom's cake in the shape of a snare drum. Found a pic on the internet I'd like to use as inspiration but part of it looks to be silver painted fondant. How do I do this? Use silver highlighting powder? Mix with? Paint with a paint brush? Can anyone help me with this?
I'm still learning too, I was ignorant too. I went to my local cake shop after I saw a silver cake on this site and asked how to do it The lustre dust they carry is CK. I don't think Wilton carries it, but I am new to all this too so I could be wrong!
so I take it that it's lustre dust that gives fondant that awsome sheen. Okay, so I live in the great white north (we just got two or so feet of snow) and does wilton make lustre dust? please excuse my ignorance. Still learning and all.
thanks.
Hi kiddo,
I have been to Elliot Lake many times. No Wilton doesn't make them and if you have a Bulk Barn they don't carry them either. Your best bet is likely to do like me and order from www.goldaskitchen.com
Do a product search, in Canada we call them lustre dusts, in the U.S. they are luster dusts, not sure which will bring them up on Golda's, but try both. They run about $5 a bottle there, much cheaper than some other places that may be nearer to you. Golda's is in the Toronto area and great to deal with. If you have trouble finding things on the site, send them an email.
There are other Canadian sites with supplies, most in the Toronto area. Places like www.creativecutters.com etc.

thanks Squirrelly. I'll definitely check it out. My parents live in Peterborough, so I go to TO often.
There are other places in Toronto that you can shop either online or in person too. The World of Cake Decorating, McCall's. Also, I cannot remember the name of the shop, but I used to go to a really nice little cake decorating supply shop in Peterborough. Golda's, Creative Cutters and McCall's all ship to wherever you want. There is a really nice little store in Oshawa called Sugar Chalet too.
