What is your favorite non cake decorating item and how do you use it. Example: Sometime I use my sons playdough plunger to make borders for my cakes. And I've used his Bob the Builder Maker to make Bob and then painted him.
My pizza wheel for cutting fondant or gumpaste. My upright grater for texturing Marzipan fruit such as oranges or lemons. My long serrated edged bread knife for making the waved and zig zag design I use a lot on iced cakes. A plastic knitting needle for rolling back the edges of gumpaste rose petals. My handy dandy wallpaer scraper for smoothing the sides of buttercream iced cakes.
looks like i'm going to be taking my pizza cutter into my cake decorating area...

i love using my silicone baking mat to practice on. very easy to clean up. also i use the pizza cutter.
I use the kids play dough to practice my molding havent tried it with fondant yet I think you can find a lot of neat things for fondant in the playdough asile. I agree the pizza cutter is a great asset. I think the funniest thing i use is an old libary card to smooth the side's of my cakes although now im thinking i have to get a paint scraper.
