My first Wilton class isn't until tomorrow night, but I thought I would experiment a little and make a cake. My boys, ages 7 and 9, both made the A Honor Roll, so I am making a cake to celebrate that.

I used a recipe one of the members posted here, using pudding...my cake is yellow and will have vanilla pudding inside. After it cooks, I am going to wrap it then stick it the freezer (another tip I have read here). This will give me time to figure out how I want to decorate it.

Even if it comes out lousy, I will post a photo here.

I am very excited about this!!

I know how you feel! Good luck though. That is so sweet that you're making it for your boys. Even if its not perfect they will always remember it!!

The batter tasted really good, so even if the icing job doesn't come out good, we can still eat the cake! haha!!

I found a ribbon image online, so I am going to try my hand at doing a pipe gel transfer. It doesn't look too hard according to the Wilton book.

If it comes out ok, I might do one for a little boy down the road who also made honor roll.

funny. Once you set out to take the Wilton classes, you just can't wait to make your first cake! I did the same thing and made a cake before the class, practicing things I saw in the book. It was so fun! 25 pounds later, I'm still enjoying learning new things! I'm sure you'll cake will be great. It's good to photograph every cake so you can see your progess! Good luck!

Oh don't tell me that! I need to lose 25lbs!!

I haven't figured out the icing bags yet, so that might be my big downfall.
