Hey everyone! I'm a newbie to the forums. I have enjoyed reading and all the help from everyone. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who needs help!
So my problem is: I had an order for a 3 tier package cake. Came out great, but thought it would be perfect with a fondant bow. Got it to the party, but as soon as I took the tissue paper from the bow and placed it on the cake, it deflated! So did my heart! No one else noticed, but I was heart broken. Does anyone know why this might have happened? I used Wilton ready to roll fondant.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Did you let it dry out completely before placing it on the cake? Bows usually need some drying out time in order to keep their poufy ( icon_confused.gif spelling) shape.

I made it about five hours before the party. Is that long enough?

Actually, longer would have been better..check out this article in the How To section of the Articles tab.

Longer would have been better. You could have also added some gumtex, gumpaste, or tylose powder to it. That would help it to get hard also.

cgcreations,

When I was taking my Wilton III course, the instructor said that it was best to let the bows dry at least 24 hours before placing them on the cake to ensure that they keep their shape. I have noticed that it takes the mm fondant a little longer to dry than the Wilton fondant, or at least it does for me.

cgcreatioins,

Sweeterbug is right you need to let it dry for 24 hours.Or more depending on where you live. If you live in high humidity you should let it dry longer. You did right by keeping the tissue paper in til right before you put it on the cake! The cake is very pretty!!! You did a great job! Sorry you had that problem with the bow! We are our own worst critics! Remember that. Better luck next time with the bow~

Just wanted to say that saggy bow or not--it look perfect! I can see why nobody noticed--it looks like you purposely did it that way.

I agree, though, you needed more drying time to make it hold it's shape. I have also used a 50/50 mix of fondant and gum paste with really good results.

Thanks everyone for your help! I had never used fondant before and of course the instructions in the box never said anything about waiting 24 hours. I'll be sure to wait next time! Thanks!

I just wanted to say that your cake looks absolutely beautiful! Sorry about your bow, that would be so dissapointing, but the pp is right, it still looks great!
