I applied to a bakery here as they had an opening for a cake decorator. I sent in my resume along with a handful of my watermarked portfolio pics and they contacted me, said they loved my cakes and want to meet with me. The position is "on contract", so they would be calling me when they are swamped and needed to outsource work. Does anyone have any experience in this? it seems like it may be a good opportunity but at the same time, I think I should be a bit wary about this.

StCakes,

Good for you icon_smile.gif

Would you be a subcontractor and delivering decorated baked goods to them on a "per cake" basis.

Or would you be "on call" and make the cakes in their bakery on an hourly basis.

Sorry, I'm just a tad confused.

I'm not sure. The owner has yet to get back to me on what he would like to do. I'm going to put in a call to him tomorrow to see where this is going.

The scoop is that I would need to give up my cakes on the side and sign a confidentiality agreement to be exclusive to this facility during my employment and for a period after if I should decide to leave them. I was then told that if I don't then no bakery or facility will hire me. Guess I am going to stay a "domestic goddess" for a bit longer.

Good for you! icon_smile.gif I understand that doing cakes at home as well as for another bakery is a conflict of interest, but that's a tall order to have to give up your own work in order to do theirs.
