I have been asked to make 20 individual wedding cakes for a bridal shower. The customer wants 3 tiered with fondant. The base is about 4". They are simple with dots and a few gumpaste flowers. What would be a good price to charge? I have seen anywhere from $10-$25 a piece.

Welcome to cake central. 4" base and 3 tiers? Charge a lot! The smaller the cake, the more work it is. Plus the plates and boxes. I would ask $25 minimum

Just because the cake is smaller does not mean it is less work. There is the fondant, the design work, tiering them, packagin them, etc. I say $25 each. If the customer thinks it is high explain the cost behind that number. Give the alternate of 1 large cake or a cake for each table at the shower. It would be much cheaper.

My first order was for 40 two tiered and I charged $6 each. I thought I will not even think about doing them for that price again. 3 yrs later someone orders 19 three tiered with mini fondant bows and pearl dots on each tier. I remembered the last time and I made them and charged this lady $12 each. After working on them for forever realized next time they will be $25 each. I prefer not to do them. I could have made 3 big cakes for way more money. Learn as you go? I guess?

Gee thanks! I offered to make them for $8, but even that was too expensive, so needless to say I won't be making them. I figure each one would take at least an hour plus to make not including the fondant mixing and cake baking. Thanks for all of the wise counsel. I will venture into cake decorating being very aware of time commitment and price.
