Hello everyone-
My daughter's bridal shower will take place on May 6th and I'm trying to decide what type of cake I will make. I'd love to make individual cupcakes with an umbrella on top of each - preferrably one that is edible. Has anyone ever made 3-D umbrellas before? I was wondering if they could be made with color flow and if so, does anyone have a pattern? Also, if an edible umbrella is not possible, has anyone ever seen umbrella cupcake picks (besides those that are used in tropical drinks). Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I have seen the umbrella picks at my local party supply store. If you are looking for edible I would make it in BC. Colorflow might be edible but I was told that it tastes awful. HTH

Hi,
What about an umbrella cookie? If you look in the Flour Pot Cookie Book, they have really cute umbrella cookies..here is a picture,

http://www.flourpotcookies.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=FAV%2DSHWUMBR

maybe you could either stcik them in the cupcake, or just use a stick, and only use the top of the cookie( the umbrella part) That is how they did it in the book..also you could decorate both sides..

or in the book.."The Art Of Cakes" there are instructions for making umbrellas out of fondant..I think the cookie is better, because you can eat it..

Could you maybe take some foil and make a umbrella shaped top and then dip it into chocolate let harden and remove from foil add a pretzel for the handle. I used this method to make chocolate cups and it worked great. HTH

I would use half ball choc molds. make a shell. Heat a exacto knif to cut the scallop. If you have time you can paint the scallops.

These are some really great ideas! Calvarykari- glad you warned me about the taste of color flow - I've used it before but never actually ate it icon_smile.gif
nickdrewnjaysmom - thank you for this helpful link - the umbrella cookies are just as cute as can be - I think I'll make some as favors whether I use them on the cakes or not; Sassijen - I actually found a candy mold the shape of the top of an umbrella and was considering doing the same thing you suggested - with the candy mold, I wouldn't have to try to make one myself. Thanks to everyone for your ideas and suggestions!

I've seen candy molds in the shape of umbrellas. You could put those on top of the cupcakes.

Well you can take on of the clip art pictures

http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&q=umbrella+clip+art&btnG=Search

Make multiply copies of the design, then out line in blue, pink, yellow or white chocolate (just like a chocolate transfer design). Make extras because some will break.

You can just outline the design or outline and fill the outline area.

If you use colored chocolate then you can place the umberllas on white frosting maybe with some color chocolate shavings.

I hope this helps.
