I got a call from a lady who has 3 people in her office that have events coming up. She wants to talk about a "sampling".

Now, I don't want to get into the habit of giving away free cake to everyone with an event. I currently want to do them only for large orders, since they are free if you show up for your appointment.

But should I do it since it has the possibility of 3 orders?

If someone can answer tonight, I'd appreciate it, I need to get back in touch with her.

Thanks!

Is she talking large events (equivilent to weddings) or just birthdays and such?

One graduation, one birthday and one baby shower.

I would ask her what type of "events". Maybe she's in charge of company entertainment, such as open houses and when they have out of town corporate visitors or something, in which case, I'd want to know the potential size (like Tiggy said .... wedding size events?). Also what is she wanting to "sample"? A response of "we just want to try your cakes" might result in me offering to sell them a 6" cake .... depending on the answer to "what type of events" I had been given.

If you don't do samplings for small "events", then don't be afraid to say so.

Birthday, graduation, shower are likely not large cakes, so a sampling is just free cake and labor. i would definitely say no.

Next time you bake a cake make a cup cake for her. I certainly wouldn't do a sampling for 3 potential small cakes.

This is what I would do....Offer her a "piece" of a cake you are already doing...
