Hello Y'all,
I made MMF. It turned out great. I want to mold with it. Do i need to add gumtex to it? What does gumtex do? I think I read that it will make the MMF dry faster and harder, giving the molded object strength, but I don't know if I read correctly. Will Y'all please educate me about this?
Thanks for the help/education.
I have not done it personally, but that is exactly what I read on here too=) Posting to help BUMP you up to the top so and expert can help you out!! Jen
BUMP!
yup...you are right! Gumtex will allow the MMF to dry faster and harder. You could make something out of straight MMF but it is more likely to sag and would take a fairly long time to dry out...you might be able to make a teddy or items that wouldn't need all that much structure.
Your teddy might sag down a bit.
By adding gumtex, it will be almost dry by tomorrow..not rock hard but certainly drier than if you hadn't added it.....
You can achieve the same effect by mixing gumpaste with MMF...40/60 or even 50/50 but my favourite is 1 lb fondant (commercial) to 1 tsp of gumtex. I would use CMC but I can't get my hands on it easily..they pretty much work the same way..
Knead the gumtex in really well...it is a really fine powder and I add it a bit at a time as the powder tends to fly around.
You can see quite a few examples of fondant/gumtex figures in my photos.
I got this info from other very good modelers around CC and it has worked beautifully...it just allows you to do more and it will dry better.
Hope that helps
Jane
