Let me just start by saying that I am so happy that today is NOT Monday!!! lol I had at least 5 bad-Monday's-worth yesterday!
I'll just start at the beginning.....
I couldn't sleep Sunday night, so I was up for the day at 3 am and was already in a bad mood. My DH was kind enough to offer to take DS to school...that helped a lot. I was supposed to be somewhere at 10 am...I get my other two kids up, fed, dressed..get everything together that we needed and go to grab my purse and keys. The keys are nowhere to be found. I look for them for almost 1/2 hour...they're just gone! I call my DH & ask him where his set of keys to my car are...he doesn't know.
I sit and think for a few minutes & realize my DS sat at the table for breakfast and my purse & keys were right in front of him....he's fond of keys...I now know where my car keys are. lol So I call the school & ask if they could go have him check his pockets....the lady stays on the phone with me while she does it & I hear DS say..."Oh no...I forgot I put them in my pocket"...poor thing thought he was really gonna be in trouble for that one - all I could do was laugh, wasn't worth getting mad over. lol
So I missed my appointment and had no way to go anywhere...talk about frustrated!
Right after lunch (around 2 pm) I started to bake my cake for my Wilton Course I class, which was at 6 pm. My oven caught on fire, with the cake in it, after about 5 minutes!!! ![]()
![]()
I had a FIRE in my oven! My DS gets out of school at 12 pm, so he was home & he & his brother & DH were out on the tractor...I had no help! I put the fire out with a combination of flour and water...lol. For more details of this, please read 'The Inferno' topic in the Cake Disasters forum.
ok....so I've had about 2 hrs. sleep, my car keys went to school with my 5 yr old, missed an appointment and I've had an oven fire. Can't get worse.....can it?? lol
My 3 yr old came in and had a snack. I go take out the garbage and when I walk back into the kitchen he's standing in a pile of what (at 1st glance) seems to be dirt...I get closer and see the cocoa powder container laying on its side behind him!!!
I had taken the cocoa out of the cabinet earlier to get to the flour to put out the fire & had left it on the counter. DS opened it up, dumped it on the flour, danced in it and then when he saw the look on my face and heard me scream 'aagggghhh!' proceeded to run away from me all throughout the house...every room had little cocoa footprints all thru it!! lol
I got all of the cocoa mess cleaned up and then started calling grocery store bakeries to see if they would sell me a plain cake with no filling or icing. It took me calling 4 stores before I found one that would and then they said they had to charge me full price! lol I didn't care...I said I'd pay them $50 if that meant I would have a cake to take to my Wilton class to decorate! HA!
I picked up the cake and it was still frozen in the middle...in plastic that was sealed along the edges. And there was condensation inside the bag, so I knew the cake would be a crumb fiesta when I went to ice it.
Oh well...I had a cake. Then I was 10 minutes late for the class becuase on my way there I narrowly avoided an accident that happened right in front of me...but I was stuck there for a few minutes trying to get around them, then the traffic the rest of the way was as bad as it is at Christmas time...lol. I got to class & let me tell you, it was the highlight of my day! ![]()
It would be nice if that were the end of my story, but.....
I get home from my class and go into the office to check email and CC, etc, just unwind a little bit. My computer started acting funny and then just started shutting down!!! HUH??!!!! ![]()
![]()
It kept running the scan disk utility and then would try to start up but would shut down again, then scan disk again...over and over and over and over. It never would even start up correctly. At this point, I felt the tears of shear weariness from everything all day long...but I held them back, took a deep breath and resolved to just take the computer to be repaired.
While I was getting ready for bed, I realized that I knew just what I needed to make me feel better before i went to sleep....CHOCOLATE!!!!!
So I went to where I keep my 'secret stash' (in my closet! hehehe) Ghiardelli caramel filled squares, Toblerone bar, Hershey's Nuggets with almonds & toffee....yyuuuummm! They were gone!!! VANISHED!!! ![]()
![]()
![]()

I got them in my stocking at Christmas & hadn't even put a dent in my supply...I asked my DH where all my chocolate went. He informed me that he & DS found them last week and 'polished them off'!!!
And that's precisely the reason I hid them in the closet in the first place...no idea how they found them...lol.
Needless to say I finally cried! ![]()

I found myself thinking today that it would've been great if I'd had someone following me around all day with a camera for proof that this many bad things CAN happen to one person in one day!!! HA!
So if you're having a bad one....just be thankful that you weren't ME yesterday! ![]()
Thanks for letting me vent!
JennT, I don't know how you made it through the day, and then to find your chocolate has been "polished off"! I am very afraid that in those same circumstances those responsible would have been "polished off" and immediately sent to the doghouse for a long, uncomfortable stay. Nobody messes with MY chocolate!
Surely Tuesday was a better day, hopefully the rest of the week going great after all that in one day! Janice
JennT,
I have mentioned this before, but it bears repeating: Any "special" food--chocolate, Haagen Dazs, etc... should be wrapped in foil and labled "GROUND BEEF" and stored in the freezer. Trust me, nobody will venture into your secret stash.
Oh my goodness... you poor dear. Well it is no longer Monday. I say you need to keep a bottle of something good and soothing in your closet. My gram's fav was annisette. Mine is a good chilled bottle of wine. DH has stopped asking me "is it a wine night again?"
I sympathize with you from my own little corner of titled "sh*t hitting the fan at work before vacation".
Oh dear, wish I could send you my supply of chocolate over the internet, what a day you had! Hhmn, the dancing in cocoa, well that is a new one for me. I did have a child who chummed with a little friend that thought in the winter time, dumping a big box of Tide on the floor was the closest they could get to imitating a sandbox though, somehow, not as much of a problem as tiny feet with cocoa powder prints though.
Hope your week is progressing better!
Hugs Squirrelly
JennT - Oh my gosh! I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes for you!!
Reminds me of my worst day ever...won't bore you with details except my situation with my kids that day - my 9 month old poo-poo-ed in her diaper - my 3yr old, the motherly type, thought she'd do me a favor since I was having such a horrible day and change her little sister's diaper...needless to say, she had diarrhea and my beautiful cream carpets & walls were not so beautiful anymore! I DID cry at that moment. (this happened at 7:30pm at nite - after a full day of mishaps!!).
It's great that you can find the humor in it all and that you've vented with your pals at CC.
Have a GREAT day!
OK JennT....I think what has happened is that you have had all of your bad luck for the year 2006 all rolled up into one day!
So now there is only smooth sailing throughout the rest of the year.
Chin Up and I wish you only the best for the rest of the year!
Debbie
ohh you poor thing!!! so sorry you had such a bad day. so how was your class? was it worth the frusteration of getting there?
hope the rest of your week goes much better!
melody
Thanks so much, everyone. I'm so glad I was able to vent about it here...it helped me get the last little bit of grumpiness over it out of my system! ![]()
lotsoftots - I just love your suggestion of hiding the chocolate stash in the freezer!! I think I'll have to do that ![]()
Ravun2003 - that's what another friend of mine said....I'm not allowed to have anything even remotely bad, negative or sad happen to me for the rest of the year 'cause I got it all on Monday! lol
Wouldn't it be nice if that would actually happen??!! lol ![]()
SC - if it had been laundry detergent my little William danced around in and tracked thru the house, at least it would've made the whole house smell wonderful!!!! HA! And I definitely would have had a more enjoyable time cleaning that up. lol
BarefootContessa - a friend of ours goes to places like Puerto Rico and Haiti & Cuba for work...he occasionally brings back goodies for us when he see something he thinks we'll like. A few weeks ago he brought us a bottle of Haitan Rum! Very expensive stuff & not something you can just go into a store and find...this kind is actually not imported to the USA anywhere. We were saving it for a 'special occasion' - I opened it up (after my cry) and informed my husband that it was a 'special occasion'...lol. He asked what I meant, I told him I'd opened up the rum and since it was open it was now that 'special occasion'...HA!
melodyscakes & cindy6250 - the cake turned out really cute! I learned the right way to do some simple things that I just couldn't get the hang of on my own...like shells and the rhythm of turning the turntable while icing and smoothing. My instructor showed me quite a few things on a one-on-one basis and it helped tremendously! The class really was the best part of that day...lol ![]()
I have to say that I just love you guys for caring & commiserating! Really helps me feel better about my day of nightmares...lol. Now, we need to have a convention or something so I can give you all a great big hug! ![]()
