Hi,
I was looking at the recipes on this site but the recipes don't say if you can pipe them or not. There are some cakes I love that require a whipped cream (cool whip type) frosting and I'd love to be able to decorate these kind of cakes. Can anyone tell me if this kind of icing is compatible with piping decorations? I've only used the Wilton BC taught in class so I don't really know. Also, will this type of icing crust? Is there a recipe for a crusting one?

thanks,
Christine

Truly whipped cream icing can be stabilized, and works for piping simple decorations and borders. Whipped cream icings do not crust.

There is also a commercial product called Frostin' Price, or Rich's Bettercreme that both pipe very well, and are delicious. again, not crusting.

Wilton sells a whipped icing mix that you whip with ice-cold water that doesn't do bad w/ piping. The box is around $4 and is enough to ice and pipe on an 8".

I love this whipped cream icing on this site:

You can pipe borders easily with it and it tastes wonderful. If only it crusted, it would be perfect! icon_lol.gif

JenniferL, do you know how long that can sit out?

I'm not sure about that. I've left it out for 2-3 hours without any problems. I'm kind of a chicken when it comes to leaving stuff out though.

Rich's Bettercream whipped icing can be left out at room temp, refridgerated or frozen. It pipes very well. You can buy a mix that you whip yourself from "buy-in-bulk" stores, or go to the bakery at walmart or sam's and ask if you can buy a 5 gallon bucket for about $22
