My daughter will be turning 1 year old in April. I would like to make her cake in the likes of her favorite toy which is a pink lovey (blanket) with a puppy dog head in the middle of the blanket. My first thoughts were to stack two round cakes (top one smaller) and then drape pink fondant over the top to look like the blanket. Then somehow use cake to form the head and ice that to look fuzzy???? I'm not sure how to do the ears or arms of the puppy. Also, I would like the outer edge of the blanket to look like satin... will luster dust accomplish this?

Any thoughts or ideas on this cake would be very helpful... I will attach a picture of her toy to help the brain storming.
Thanks in advance!
Diana

Oh my goodness!! That sounds sooo cute! I can just picture it in my head! It literally made me go " Aaaaawwwww!" She will love that ! thumbs_up.gif I haven't worked with luster dust yet but from everything that I've read and seen that would definitely work for the satin border. The puppy head can be made with some cake that is about 1 to 2 inches thick cut into pieces to form the heights that you want to achieve. Then just pipe on the fur with the grass tip. I know there is a thread out there about texturing the blanket to look like fleece. I'll see if I can find it for you! If not then maybe someone who knows how to do that will see this! Look in my photos at the puppy and that will show you what i mean about the head and the arms could just be icing piped in a line then grass fur piped over the top of that......GL!! Can't wait to see this!!! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

For the blanket on my shower cake I used a George Forman Grill Sponge form Wal-mart. They are grooved but I just pushed the grey side down into the fondant really hard to get the cuddly fleece look I wanted. Good luck! Luster dust will work great for the blanket edging.

So far all your thoughts and ideas are helping me form a plan! Thank you so much! Any more ideas are definitely welcome as the cake will be made in mid April... I like to plan!

Any ideas of how to shape the cake underneath the blanket to let the blanket drape nicely would be great!

Thanks!

BTW, eagerlearner... yes, your cake is very similiar! Very cute! Thanks for sharing!

I'd just pipe buttercream into the basic billowing mound you want to place the blanket on and then use a ball tool to shape your fondant folds very carefully so that you don't "erase" your fleece look.

Christeena,
I used your method of using the grill sponge on the MMF. It didn't show up real well in the pictures. Thanks so much for that great idea!

This is fantastic. At first, before I read it, I thought you had laid out her blanket for the ideas...

GREAT job!
