Perhaps they are referring to traditional wooden clogs? Take a look at this site:

http://www.cloggieshop.com/

That would make a really nice cake! A clog on top with tulips in and around it, very nice indeed!

It would be easiest to make it out of gumpaste. You can often find cheaper knicknacs to copy or just fashion one from a picture.
Here are is a site that will give you ideas.

They are called Klompen or clogs. If you do a search for Dutch clogs you will come up with several reference points.

Hi, I live in Holland, in the first link is a yellow shoe with a red band ... that is exactly what my husband wears in the garden.... so a very good example to follow.

WOW!!!!!! I bet the wood on them wore down and probably fits HIS foot to a T huh???? Now that I'm thinking about it like that I can imagine they're probably wonderfully comfortable once you get past the fact that you're walking on wood LOL

So I've been told, but most people I know who wear them wear really thick socks too!

Hi! I'm from Holland, Michigan and this is the week of the Tulip Festival so there are lots of Dutch Dancers out there with their wooden shoes (my daughter and I dance with the Alumni) and we wear about 6 pair of socks each - once I got used to all that padding, I was fine! Lots of fun! Lots of cakes in the stores around here with tulips on them but haven't seen any with wooden shoes (not to say that there aren't any!) Lots of Dutch letters and banket, too - and of course, the elephant ears are out in abundance! Yum! Childrens' parade tomorrow and the Parade of Bands in on Saturday - Lots of fun here this week! Come on over and join us!

I dont' think it's as common now as it used to be, but I think people who farm still wear them a lot.
My dad doesn't wear his all the time, but every once in a while when we see them, he'll have them on, mostly at home. They do conform and the wood on the inside doesn't feel all the hard, if I remember correctly.

Sorry, can't help with the shoes. But you did awaken a lot of fond of memories for me. I was raised in Detroit and we always went to the festival. What a wonderful thing. Next trip I will have to make sure to come at this time of year.

Didn't someone here do a clog shoe recently? They look the same to me. You could do a search for it, I can't remember who did it.

Yes...I did do a clog cake.
Some suggestions I have. When you are carving the cake, do a very exaggerated version of a clog. Once you ice it, it loses some definition.

OKay, so it is just one suggestion. icon_confused.gif
Good luck!!!
