I am having my nine year old daughters party this Saturday. I'm doing cupcakes to make things easier. I'm having trouble with the menu part. I have reserved a house that I call the "party house". There will be 50 - 75 people coming. This is her first BIG party. I was going to serve pizza. Easy enough. One of the kids coming is allergic to milk. icon_cry.gif I could if needed. Go buy him a hamburger happy meal @ McDonalds, still serve pizza. I don't really want to make him feel set apart. His mom is giving me a recipe that she uses to make cupcakes. I'm going to make some & if I like them I will make these for everyone. If not, I will make some for him, just decorate them like everyones. I hope someone on here has an idea or two.

just b/c he is allergic to milk doesn't necessarily men he is allergic to cheese (which I think is why you are saying he can't eat the pizza). and you CAN order a pizza without cheese. You're way nicer than I would be to make special cupcakes for the kid - one would think his MOM would bring something if his dietary restrictions require it. I'm not heartless, but that's just a little over the top. yo're trying to deal with 75 people and she wants you to make cupcakes HER way?

Actually I requested her recipe. I love this little boy as if he were mine. He can't have cheese. He can't have anything with any trace of milk in it. His respiratory system starts to shut down. His Mom didn't ask for a special menu, this is totally my idea. I have seen this boy cry when he was younger, because he didn't understand why he couldn't even have cookies. Some bread has milk in it. McDonalds is the only burger place around here that we have found that doesn't have milk traces in it. I would serve PB&J if that's the only thing I can find that he can eat.

For everyone. I'm going to call my local Chick-fil-a & see what they cook they're nuggets in. I might just go to Wal-mart & get a chicken finger platter. I don't know!!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

I use to work at chick-fil-a and if I recall (assuming they have not changed the batter) it DOES have milk in it. sorry

I even found that most chicken nuggets have milk (or by products of milk) in them (a good friend of mine has a daughter they thought had a milk allergy for awhile and had to eliminate it).

Might sound silly, but how about hotdogs?? Kids love hotdogs=) You could serve em with chips and it would be a very easy meal for you! And if you can't find buns without a milk product in it, he could just have it on a stick?? Just a thought=)

you are right. They do a milk wash before they bread the chicken. icon_cry.gif Does this sound ok. I'm going to call the mom. Tell her I have turned my brain to mush trying to figure out what to serve. I will ask him, if he will be upset with me, if I get him McDonalds & serve pizza. I will discuss it with his mom. He was 4 before he had ever eaten cake. I might have to do what I don't want to. icon_cry.gif Thanks everyone. I will let everyone know what happens. I erally don't want to do alot of cooking due to the cupcakes & cake truffles I'm making. icon_rolleyes.gif

Newbeebaker your so smart. Aldi's hot dog buns are milk free. Why didn't I think of that. He can have ball park franks. That's a good idea. I can cook them at home & heat them up there.

Can't you just make all the cupcakes with a non dairy coffee whitener instead of milk? I used it at valentines day for the first time and I used it to make Ganache to pour over my cakes. It turned out great all I had to do was increase my amount of chocolate slightly. I had thought I had bought heavy cream and didnt have time to go back to the store so figured I'd experiement and I happened to have Riches coffee whitener in the freezer, and it was just for my family so figured what the heck give it a try lol they loved it.

Again if you can find buns without milk, sloppy joes and chips. The sloppy joes can be made ahead of time and the dumped in a crock pot before the party.

you are very nice, then. But one thing I would caution is making sure that you don't tailor the menu too much - many of the OTHER kids might not eat it if! (sometimes you just can't get a break!). It is sad for the kid that he can't have what everyone else has all the time.

adriss....sloppy joe's are ground beef loose sandwiches that have a red tomato based sauce on it....usually has green peppers in it....Manwich is a brand name of the mix you can add to ground beef. My hubby's family in Iowa calls them Maidrite's (but I have heard they have a different kind of beef).

Thanks Melanie, It's like a chili hamburguer,

that would be messy, but sounds tasty!!!!

icon_smile.gif

In my kids parties I always have Carne Asada Tacos and quesadillas, and they are always a hit,

I dont know if there is people in your area that offer that sevice but in San Diego there is many of them They come to your house with grill, tortilla makers and everything to make tacos,

I was thinking, you could have an italian menu, pizza, salad, bread sticks, and you could make spaguetti and meatballs, maybe the kid can eat meatballs with salad an italian dressing.

My baby is also allergic to milk, well he has lactose intolorence, and he only drinks soy milk, so I undesrtand the mom, its really sad because my other kids eat a lot of cheese, yogurts, and other dairy products. I dont know why in kids are comming with more allergies this days?????

Good Luck with your party,

Adriana

I gotta say what a great person you are. If that were my child I would be so grateful to you for trying to make my child "fit in".
I work with handicapped children, and I see first hand how their feeling get hurt everyday because they are "different".
Bless you for being so considerate.
BTW, I always did hot dog parties when my kids were little. They all loved them! A good pasta salad would be great with it too. I use all different kinds of shaped pasta, so the kids really like it.

Wow! You are a super person for considering the feelings of a child. My hat is off to you! I work with children and I know how hard it is on a child when they are different.

I agree that hot dogs would be a great idea. I have not met many children who do not love hot dogs. This way everyone would have the same thing. Also, I have used soy milk to make cupcakes and they aren't bad at all.

I am allergic to milk as is my eldest son.
We use soy everything.
You will not notice anything in your baked goods and the pizza will taste a little different but you can buy several types of soy cheese and find one that you like.
Also, cheese is made of cow milk does the child have allergies to other mammals? Goat cheese on pizza is an awsome flavour enhancer almost like adult gourmet pizza.
Other foods to serve at a party.

Well there are ants on a log. celery slices cut about 2 inches long, filled with almond butter (peanut allergy for other son) and dotted with 3-4 raisins. The ants. My kids love that one as do most of the neighbourhood.

Then I also make muddy monkies.

take a whole wheat flour tortilla butter is with almond butter, you can drizzle brown rice syrup or honey if you like which makes them extra goowy. Then take a banana and roll it up. Great healthy snack and I slice them into 1/2 inch slices and put frilly toothpicks sold at thos party places.

On special occasions I make and dye my bread and colour to go along with the theme colour. Then I make finger sandwiches out of cookie cutters. Easter I make eggs and tulips, bunnies etc.. Halloween ghosts, pumpkins etc.. You get the idea.
Have fun with your party.

hey some hot dogs have milk in them..they use powdered milk in the grinding process, I THINK ball park franks have milk in them too. I remember when we had to make hot dogs in school and we had to add in the milk product at a certain temperature and stuff...soooooooo you might want to try something else? Sloppy joes are great.

Thank you so much everyone for the replies. I talked to the mom tonight. She said she would look to see what hot dogs she has in her fridge & let me know. This boy is the youngest of 5. He is the only one with this allergy. Any mammal milk of any kind. He has in the past two years been able to tolerate soy milk. They use 8th continent(?) She was in tears tonight. Her little boy is soo sick. He had strep last week & it has gotten worse. The dr has him on antibiotics. So, it looks like he can't come. This is the 1st time he has been invited to a party. They are cuban & I had thought to ask the mom if I bought everything & helped would she make her famous pico dillo( I know I killed the spelling). This stuff is awesome. My family loves it. I could just cry. icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif I'm praying God will heal him & he gets to come. She & I agreed that we will not do anything that will cause anyone else to get sick. On the bright side... He might be outgrowing this allergy. icon_lol.gif That's what his allergist said a couple of weeks ago.
