Has anyone been asked to make a cake dive cake for a wedding expo???
I have been asked to do this for an upcoming expo and was wondering is it just a normal wedding cake set up. I ask this because in any of the cake dives I have seen...I never have noticed the dowels ect? Obviously you would need them or it would collasp, duh. icon_confused.gif

Anyone have any pointers or tips to make this a sucess??

A cake dive is a larger cake with a prize hidden in the bottom. It is usually seen at bridal expos where the bride to be's register to compete against each other to dig in and find the prize. It is so much fun to watch.

It didn't look like there were dowels, and they were thinner layers.

If you stacked the cake as late as possible, it should hold up okay. Wide layers give more surface area, spreading the weight out - maybe 3 layers with a 2 inch difference? Going too small for the top cake could press the center too much and cause it to split, so maybe 8-10-12?

Yes..I have seen this!! It is quite funny to see these brides completely masicate the cake to find a prize which is usually a diamond ring or a honeymoon trip.I wouldn't find it too funny though if it was a cake I worked on for hours!!!
