If y'all like Alton Brown of Good Eats, he's doing buttercream icing on his show that starts at 6PM CST on FoodTV. W00t!

I've seen this show and I was less than impressed (hey, he's a science guy and a great foodie, but cake decorator he is not! icon_biggrin.gif), but if any of you haven't done a cooked icing before, this is a great show to watch.

I LOVE Alton because he is so incredibly sexy, but I did try his buttercream with horrible results. Whatever, I don't care, Alton is HOT. I'm curious if anyone else has tried his buttercream? The reviews on the FN site are not favorable either.

I love watching his show too. I tried his pie crust recipe from the lemon meringue pie show and it sucked. haha. I've made pie crust from scratch for years and that was the worse crust. It would not come together, would not go evenly into the shell, very difficult to work with.

I'm not a big fan of his recipes either but he is hot! I love that fuzzy head of hair of his, he's pretty funny and entertaining too!
DH made some comment the other day when I was baking and he said "Alton doesn't do that!" My reply was, when have you ever seen Alton decorate a cake!
Dang, now here he is making BC. Darn it icon_cool.gif

Well, it was sure "interesting" how he torted the cake with pieces of wood as a guide icon_eek.gif and he filled with with a very thin layer of ganache without putting a dam of icing first... well, the layer of ganache was so thin there was no way it could've spilled out... but still....

Then the cake layers were completely out of proportion on the sides so he used (well, my daughter called me out for something and when I returned he had done it) a knife I think to level the whole cake around to make it even...

Then he iced it pretty neat, he did say he was no expert on this... so he used some aiding tools to creat a neat design on it...

It was interesting to say the least...

It was an electric knife! icon_surprised.gif

An electric knife doesn't surprise me. Alton does love to use power tools in the kitchen. I do have to agree with the majority here and put in that there is something sexy about that man.

A side note that has NOTHING to do with cake...If you want to try one of his recipes that is super yummy and comes out great every time try his spinach/ricotta filled tortellini. thumbs_up.gif

I agree with you all. I have never tried a recipe of his but he's just interesting to watch. It's interesting to learn why things react the way they do instead of just following a recipe. Make me want to take culinary classes. Plus he's a cutie.

I took fondant for him to sign with a Food Doodler at a book signing earlier this year. icon_biggrin.gif It was the first fondant he's ever signed! LOL He's definitely the most interesting guy on TV. (Well, FoodTV, that is!)

I love how he uses all kinds of tools and gadgets to get jobs done. I've really learned alot from watching him over the years.

I love Alton! I thought it was just me who thought he was a cutie! I was so disappointed earlier this year when I found out after the fact that Alton had come to New Orleans for a book signing-on MY BIRTHDAY!!! And I missed him!! No suprise-we had just gotten the little one home after 6 weeks in the hospital and he was our main focus!
