O.K. I just took the fondant and gumpaste class and we made the drapes and flowers for the cakes. So on my final cake I put the draping effect and daisies. But when I brought the cake home and we began to eat it I noticed the drapes and fondant covering were just too much when you eat it. YUCK! icon_eek.gif How in the world do all these wedding cakes with all those decorations and tons of fondant get eaten? I used good fondant, MMF and satin ice. Which I like both as a cake covering, but all that together is nasty. It looks so pretty and all that work is awsome, but I digress.....YUCK! thumbsdown.giftapedshut.gif Can you imagine how someone like collette peters cake would taste with all that fondant??? Yes, it a true work of art, but it is still CAKE! Here is my cake so you can see I didn't have tons of fondant just enough for the effect.

Your cake turned out great. I think most people peel the fondant off before they eat the cake. It seems like such a waste doesn't it? I love the look of the fondant covered cakes. I have played around with modeling and using the fondant as accents, but haven't tried to cover a cake with it yet. I hate the thought of all that work and money just being thrown away! I would like to try it at least once though, just to see if I can do it!

I just peel off the fondant. Some of my friends and family like it, but I have never seen it as something that ought to be eaten, just a way to make the cake look pretty. icon_smile.gif

Just seems like such a shame to really work hard on something to have it just be thrown away or someone actually say "eeeewww, what is that?" icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif Maybe the way to go is dummy cakes with fondant and serve the real cakes with all those yummmy cake and filling combos. Then you could have the cake as a momento, say in a wedding or ann. situation...
