Wow, That Was Rough!

i attempted a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling, peanut butter frosting and pirouline cookies today and it was rough! it took me a total of 6 hours. first of all, i should have known it was gonna be a scary experience when i took the cakes out of the oven and two of the three got stuck to the pan... i was able to make due, but it almost didn't happen.

then, i made the peanut butter frosting and i couldn't get it smooth. then i filled the cake with the mousse and remembered to make a dam (yay!) but the frosting wasn't working. i couldn't get it to stick to the cake. it kept pulling cake off. ugh! I finally decided to use my hands instead of a spatula and the mousse kept squeezing out the side (through my dam!) and the cake was falling apart. i finally got it all put together and the cookies around the side (which, btw, i had exactly enough! yikes!!) and it just didn't turn out like i wanted it.

here's the finished product. please be honest and let me know what you think.... i'm going to bed... zzzzz

I think it looks terrific. No sign of any problems. A great solution to sticking layers, is parchment. Everything comes out.

Oh,YUM!It looks wonderful and I love the pirouline.Maybe making it took more than what you expected but it was worth it.Good job! thumbs_up.gif

It looks great just looking at it you would never know you had all this trouble with it . For me I have found the ones I have the most trouble with and that I think are going to look terrible are the ones that turn out to be the nicest looking . icon_smile.gif

Your cake is absolutely lovely! One of the things I love about baking/decorating is the challenge of it and the creative fixes we sometimes have to come up with. And we do, don't we? And usually, if we don't tell anyone they would never know what we went through to get it to look so great! Excellent job!

thanks everyone! my parents were impressed. i don't think they were expecting such a 'fancy' cake. i think they were just expecting a plain cake with frosting. surprise! it tasted pretty good too.

I know you had a tough time, but surely you can see how beautiful it is!
