I have seen some awesome scrollwork on CC cakes. I would like to try it for a cake next week. Do people typically use a template of some sort, or freehand it? Also, do you need a turntable that angles to scroll the sides? Just wondering.

It does help to tilt the cake, but you can elevate the edge of any turntable to help increase the exposure of the side of the cake. Depending on the design, a template may be necessary, but you can certainly freehand many designs.

I freehand my scrollwork most of the time. I also don't tilt my cake - I'm too worried that it would end in disaster!
